On the basis of experiences with 496 plaitic flaps which were performed during
5 yr. of existence of the Clinic of Plastic Surgery of the Medical Faculty of Ko-
mensky's University in Bratislava, the author discusses the possibilities and in-
dications for the use of skin flaps in plastic and reconstruction surgery. lie de-
fends the standpoint of removal of the major part of fat from the flaps, as for
the nourishment of the flap the vascular plexus in the dermis and subdermal layer
is sufficient. According to the experiences of the author, leaving only a thin layer
of subctdaneous fat speeds up and increases the biological and functional value
of the flap. and subsequent operations for the removal of excessive fat are avoided.

TITLE: Pion production in pp collisions at 650 MeV energy
SOURCE: Zh. eksper. i teor. fiz., v. 46, no. 4, 1964, 1245-1256
TOPIC TAGS: pion production, pion pion interaction, resonance scat-
tering, Mandelstam representation, isotopic invariance
ABSTRACT: A liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber was used to investigate
pion-nucleon correlations and the angle and energy distributions of
p;rons produced by 650-HeV protons. The investigation was motivated
by the few unanswered questions which the Mandelstam phenomenological
resonance model (Proc. Roy. Soc. v. A244, 491, 1958) Ooeq not supply.
Among these questions are the possibility that isospin is not con-

served and the role of the (3/2, 3/2) resonance in pion production.
Four reactions are investigated
P+P ':'P~+P'
p + p'~ d + W,
p+p-p+n+n+,
P + P P + P
The results of the investigation indicate that the experimental angu-
lar distributions of neutral and charged pions are consistent with
the assumption of isotopic invariance. The contributions of nN-sub-
system states with isospin TWN - 1/2 and 3/2 are measured and found
to be 72 + 3% in the latter.case. The cross sections, the angular

distribu I no, and energy spectra of the particles were determined
by methods free of the influence of systematic errors inherent in
experiments using particle counters. In addition, angle and energy

correlations were o.tained in the three-particle processes (3) and
(4); these character-stics could not be obtained by earlier pro-
cedures. The liquid-hydrogen bubble chaniber makeo it possible to
carry out an exhaustive study of all pp scattering processes in a
single experiment. it was confirmed that the crone section for pion
p4ir production in this energy range is negligible. "In conclusion
we thank the technicians and laboratory assistants for good operation
of the liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber, the scanning group of ITEF
headed by D. I. Tumanova, the scanning group of Mal who reduced
the photographs, and also Ye. M. Landis and Ye. S. Gallpern for.
setting up the program and performing the calculations on the elec-
tronic computer." Orig. art. has: 14 figures, 21 formulas, and 1

The input capacities of visual, auditory, and tactile analyzers were
investigated in 24 crew members during nine long flights. Tests were
,conducted on a special apparatus which supplied light, sound and
itactile stimuli in random order, to which the subject responded by
pressing the appropriate button as quickly as possible. The following
Indices of analyzer function were used: time of a simple motor re-

aciion,_'tim-e of t'reaction with choice, number of errors, amount of
information processed, input (or traffic) capacity, and lime required
for processing one unit of information. It was found that the input
capacity of the visual analyzer increased gradually in the first 9 hrs of
flight, and then decreased by the 15th hr. However, the input capacity
of the auditory analyzer decreased regularly during thd entire flight.
The input capacity of the tactile analyzer increased (with some varia-
tions) until the 12th hr. and then decreased to initial levels..
The'gradual increase in input capacities observed In visual and
.tactile analyzers in the first 9-12 hrs of flight is probably due to
jadaptation of the organism to new conditions, with increased analyzer
lability. The subsequent decrease in input capacity is caused by
'fatigue, first noticed in crew commanders. The high noise level in
the aircraft contri:buted strongly to the decrease in auditory analyzer
input capacity. Characteristically, the greatest shifts in auditory
function were observed in commanders and radio operators, who are I
responsible for external and internal radiocommunications. The
visual analyzer is kept in a continual state of stress by the necessity
'for constant monitoring of many instruments. In the auditory
analyzer inhibito Processemp are develgpeo in the cortex d 'to.

Orig Pub: AN Inst. cercetari si experim. ind. lean. si
hirt., 1953, No 13, 171-194-
Abstract: A comparison testing during the course of one
season on various methods for tapping spruce plan-
ting demonstrated'that the method of strips in a
zigzag is more effective as compared with tapping
by means of lengthwise strips, simple zigzag and
"fishbone" cuts.

TITLE: Flight Dynamics of Guided Missiles (Dinamika poletov
upravlyayemykh snaryadov)
PERIODICAL: Vestnik Vozdushnogo Flota, 1958, Nr 1, pp. 59-65 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: In this article the author describes the guidance of
several types of mibsiles. He gives the definition of the
"method of guidance" and explains why the missiles cannot
be launched from any arbitrarily selected point. Explains
the meaning of "zone of possible attacks" from which an
aerial combat missile can be launched against a group of
targets. The first method is the method of direct
guidance (metod pryamogo navedeniya) which is based on the
principle that the axis of the missile during the guiding
process continuously points in the direction of the target.
Card 1/2
Flight Dynamics of Guided Missiles (Cont.)
86-1-18/30
Next is the pursuit method (metod pogoni). Further, the author
explains a more advanced method of guidance, which is "guiding with
a constant angle of lead" (navedeniye 9 postoyannym uglon,
uprezhdeniya). All these methods are effective against stationary
targets. The author points out that looking from the theoretical
point of view the best method of self-guidance would be the
method by which the velocity vector of a missile can be directed
at any moment to the proper instantaneous lead point. It is the
method of parallel approach (metod parallel'nogo ablizheniya).
The deficiency of this method lies in the complex control system.
For teleguided missiles the author gives the "method of coincidence"
or the "method of three points" (metod sovweshcheniya ili metod
trekh tochek), which is the simplest one. The second method of
guidance of telecontrolled missiles, given by the author, is the
"angular method" (uglovoy metod).'The author also tells briefly about
the guidance of telecontrolled missiles by means of television con-
trol system. There are 6 diagrams.

p x-CdSel-x crystals was investigated
tit 20K. It was shown that the position of the -isotropic point was practically inde-
Mndent of the thickness of CdS crystals from 2-50 micrometers, indicating the
absence of essential dependence between the thickness and the specific absorption
in the region of basic exc iton bands, Data on the nature of birefringence of mlxed
C&gx-CdSel-x crystals showed that an increase in the Se content shifted the ISO-
