Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] The diagnostic problems of retrac-
tion nystagmus are discussed on the basis of 6 cases observed. It was
demonstrated by electromyography that the essence of the disturbance in
ocular motion is the synchronous contraction of antagonistic eye muscles.
Excitation of the oral section of the mesencephalic togmentum plays a role
in its development. All 13 references are Western.

large surface area is propcsed. A film of CdS 10A\

After the heating at 4000 the excessive Cd diffuses

TEXT: Isobutylene (1) is polymerized in the presence of insoluble catalysts
obtained by reaction of BF 3 and TiCl4 with hydroxy and alkoxy compounds
of Mg and Al. This is done without using solvents. Polymers with a
molecular weight of 20,000 - 150,000, usable as oil additives, are obtained.
The rate of polymerization is controlled by the catalyst quantity. The
molecular weight of the polymer rises rapidly when the reaction temperature
is lowered. Example: A 10% suspension of AI(OH) 3 in hexane is saturated
with BF 3 at 100C, and 0.5 mole TiCl 4 per mole Al is added after distilling
off 50% of the hexane. A conversion of 94% is reached with a 10% solution
of I in hexane in the presence of 0.5% of the resulting catalyst after
2 hra at DOC, the molecular weight of the polymer being 120,000. At -30 0c,

Abstract The authors havu investigated the rate of-polymeri-

acid binary syatems BF5-H.0 and H2604-F20 in the
Hammett acitiity function range Ho = 7-10. The
ineasure-nents were carried out Lnder adiabatic
conditions. The energy or activation of the re-
action is eaLimated to be about 3 kcal/mol. The
reaction is first ordor, starting with a conver-

about 40% for atrongly acid solutions. The main

Tho pulse, which is excessively Inoreased by the "apood up" process, is
reduced by a thyratron circuit. A constant value of k could be attained
with a theoretically calculated rrana,!mant of the field coils along the
ideal orbit. In addition to the principal ooila, a ooil was placed at
the yoke of each sectort by which the influonoe of the iron resistance
was eliminated. k and the azimuthal field distribution were measured with
induction coils and a ballistic Calvanowetar. 71ith a few exceptions, the
values of k agreed with theoretical values to within il~4, The azimuthal
inhomogeneity of the field wan never greater than +1~*. The position of
the magnetic surfaces was dot, rmined with Parmalloy feelers with an error
of 0.2 mm. The deviation frow the theoratioal values was never greater
than 0.5 mm. The indication of the beam during the first revolutions
(without acceleration) was carried out with screens and ooordinat,3 nets
in the chamber, and later (with acceleration) with photemul%lpliers
equipped with radially adjustable sate of targets. The measur-6ments
showed that the field is strongly affected by the induction and "speed-up"
core (e.g., azimuthal inhomogonoity). It wan found that under optimum
conditions. the upward deviation of the beam from the center of the
chamber did not exceed 14 mm, and that the deviation of the equilibrium

The -injection system is designed both for pulsed and continuous operation.
Acceleration is effected by an electric rotating field of 500 cps and

600 v per revolution) serves for improving the electron-capture efficiency.

Intervuz Scientific and Methodical Conferences. Problems in Constructing
Automobile Roads and Brdges
The Section on Bridge Construction paid much attention
to now, progressive designs of bridge construction. The methods
of computing the structures were more accurately defined and
concrete suggestions were submitted for improving the tech-
nique. It was proposed that the construction of small bridges
of reinforced concrete be standardized and that structures
corresponding to the technical condilions of plant manufacture,
be used.
The conference decided to establish a coordinating committee
at the Gosudarstver-nyy vseaoyuznyy dorozhnyy nauchno-iseledo-

ABSTRACTs In November 1957, a conference took place at the Moskovskiy
avtomobillno-dorozhnyy institut (Moscow Automobile-Road In-
stitute) on the construction of automobile roads and bridges.
The conference was convened by the Ministerstvo vys9hego obra-
zovaniya SSSR (USSR Ministry of Higher Education). Represen-
tatives of higher educational institutions, scientific-research
and productional organizations participated.
V.T. Fedorovp Chief of the Main Administration for Construct-
ing Automobile Roads, attached to the USSR Council of Hinisteraq
delivered a report on "The Development of the Construction and
Repair Technique, and the Maintenance of Automobils Roads in
the USSR During 40 Years of Soviet Power", and S.V. Yevsta-
feyev, Deputy Chief of the same Altinistration, on "The Mecha-
nization of Road-Constructing Work".

Abstract: [Authors' English summary modified] Authors cal-

I.,
of Due Force Expiratory Volume (due Index of Vital
Capacity (IVC), Residual Volume (RV), and studied the cor-
relation between the above indoxes and Residual Volume, as
well as Total Lung Capacity (TLC). They found the closest
