TEXT: Invest:lgation of the corrosion-inhibiting mechr~nism of sodium
hexametaphosphate (I) in cooling water of various competitions .3hawed ~~,
that it varie� according to circumstances. It was found that in fresh
water containing no Cat+~ar C1' ions I ie an anodic corrosion inhibitor
(at a concentration of 20Q mg/1). In the presence of Ca(HC03)2 there '
is cathodic a+s well as anodia corrosion inhibition. ~f there :1s any
appreciable cl~ncentrati.on of Cl" (PlaCl) no anodia inh:L?~ition occurs.
It was found that in fresh water a phosphate film gradually forma on the
surface of steel, causing anodic polarization. 1~ith ~vAter containing ~~

steel grades in naphthenie acids at temperatures in the rang~p of 200-275�C. T:~e
high corrosion oi' ehromous stainless steels was found, which even exceeds the
corrosion rate oi" the non-alloyed CT-3 (ST-3) grade, It ways established that `
chrome-nickel sta~ir~less steels tend in a lesser way to corrosion, which attains 1
high values at 2i'S'C, while Cr-Ni-steels with an increased S:i-content (3-6~) are 1
highly corrosion-resistant, The corrosion resistance of these steel grades is
