PERIODICAL: Promyshlennaya energetika, 1960, No. 1, pp. 30-31
TEXT: Hitherto the liquid level in tanks has been measured
by methods using floats, for ex3mple in combination with selsyns.
These devices have a fairly comi-,licated mechanical tramsmission.
they are not very accurate and require a considerable number of
cable cores. An electric indicator of liquid level type UUZhEK--%

is now being used which does not suffer from these defects. It is
intended for remote measurement of the level of water. 113

pick-up responds to hydrostatic pressure by alter-knG in res1stance.
The pressure of the liquid flexes a membrane, The resulting change
in resistance alters the current flow-4ng in the bridge network of
the measuring device so that the instri-ment pointer is deflected
by an angle which is proportional to the cl,ange in -ressure. The
instrument is designed for supply at 24 V, d.c. or a.c. and takes

Abstract : Mouth old sprouts from F of the tomato hybrids of
Shtambolyy Karlik (dwar;j 03-185 X Biryuchekutskiy 20 were
used as the grafts, splLiced onto 2-month old plants of
the initial varieties. The generation form the graftings,

ABSTRACT: The chemical composition of waste gases depends on the type
of engine and its operating condition (see Pable; fRef ~2~
During idling, the quantity of noxious components increases
5 times, compared to normal conditions. Braking with the
motor, 1. e. forced idling, raises the content of carbon
monoxide in the waste gases 10 times. In the USA, ceramic
covers are applied to the pistons, which serve as catalysts.
Their effect, however, is insignificant durins- idling.
Freezing of the waste gases is possible, but not Dracticable
under normal conditions. The gases are often mixed with
air, to dilute them (Figure 1) f-Ref 3J. The injection
of chemical substances which form less noxious compounds,

The Reduction of the Noxious Effect of 'Faste Gases of Automol-ile Engines
often poisened by the waste gases, A catalytic silencer
has been developed in England (Figure 2) fRef 22. This
device reduces the carbon monoxide content by 61-96 A
Other foreign devices are cited. Fip--ure 5 shows a retarder
which stops the fuel supply during forced idling. It is
especially useful in mountainous areas. It is recommended
to use either a retarder or a device for complete burning,
to reduce the content of noxious gases in waste gases, There

PERIODICAL: Vestnik statistiki, 1960, No.6, pp. 17-29.
TEXTt In the further development of political economy provided by the
7 years plan a rigordus mechanization of the works of construction and
projection was agreed. The constructors etc. have to be well acquainted
with the mechanization, the formulas must permit an application of
computers, all methods must be made suitable for computers, the bureaus
of construction must have own computers or must give their calculations
to computing centers, The application of analog computers is recom nded
especially there where the methods of numerical analysis are difficult
to apply; the electronic computer "Ural" is recommended. The use of the
different kinds of pune"I in the planning and administration as well as
of the controlling devices in industry for a mechanization of technological
processes is suitable. A uniform system for the production, reproduction
and recording of the drawings, projects and plans must be developed.

mo ~a e systems with regard t frictionKetween the drum and shoe. Formulas are
given for determining the heat absorbed and radiated by the brake components in terms
of their parameters and the difference between brake temperature and ambient tempera-
ture. These formulas are used as the basis for calculating the heat transfer coeffi-
cient. Dimensional analysis is used for setting up an expression relating thermal con-~
ditions to the operating conditions of the braking system and the design parameters of,
the brake. This formula is entirely theoretical and experimental data are required to
determine the final form of the expression and the numerical values of the coefficiento.
Stand tests for braking at constant intensity show that the temperature of brake lin-
ings stabilizes vithin 8-12 minutes with little change after this period. Orig. art.

ABSTRACT: The method according to I. V. Obreimov (Reference 1) was
selected for these investigations; it is, in principle, based
on the phenonenon of a diffraction at the end of a plane
parallel lamella which is immersed into the liquid. By diffusion
a concentration gradient forms in the liquid and thus a change
of the coefficient of calculation of a parallel light beam
occurs which penetrates the liquid; on this occasion a corre-
sponding diffraction image in obtained which has light and dark
spots in the vertical. The calculation of the diffusion coeffi-
cient was carried out according to the calCUlLtion formula by

diffraction places were determined by means of tables of
error integrals and a formula. From the description of the
apparatus can, among other$ be seen that a micromethod accord-
ing to G. M. Panchenkov and I.I. Levina (Reference 3) was used
for the determination of the diffraction, the apparatus consisting
of the diffusion cell having two bulbs, a thermostat and a light
source with an optical system, as well as a camera. Diagrams
and pictures are given. The specifically heavy liquid is put into
a bulb, and a special method of measurement is given for the
determination of the difference of wave lengths for each indi-
vidual pair of liquids and for every temperature. Some determi-
nations of difj'erent pairs of liquids were carried out at
10-800C; as exaniple o-xylene-mesytilere is given at 2oOC,in
which case for D = 0,869 cm2/24h was obtained,while the di5fusion
