TITLE: Supply of transistorized communication equipment
PERIODICAL: Sdglovac:r technika, no6 21 1962, 56 - 59
TEXT: The aim of the paper is to indicate various methods
of supplying transistorized equipment in various communication
systems. It is shown that various old methods (such as a
synchronous generator plus a DC motor or synchronous generator
plus an internal-combusion engine) are unsatisfactory in many
respects and that the most promising solution of this problem
is offered by various semiconductor power supplies.
Uninterrupted service with such supplies can be ensured by
feeding them from batteries which are charged from the mains.
The basic elements of such power.supplies are electronic
stabilizers, transistorized inverters and DC transformers (also
based on transistors). In general, the transistorized circuits
at a communications establishment require a supply voltage of
about 24 V. There is usually a variety of sources at such an

establishment and it is therefore necessary to convert the
outputs of these sources,.into a voltage suitable for the
transistorized equipment. The three above mentioned transis-
torized circuit elements can perform this function in
conjunction with rectifiers (if necessary). The design details
and circuit diagrams of transistorized stabilizers, inverters and
DC transformers are given, It is possible by using these circuits
to desig n the equipment which would provide a supply voltage of
about 20 V for the following cases which are encountered in
practice:
a) theestablIshment is provided with 220 V AC mains, which
operates without interruption;
b) AC mains.is available but power cut-outs are possible;
c) no AC mains is available, and
d) the establisLiment has batteries of 24, 48 or 6o v, which
can be used for supplying the transistorized equipment.

Between the paediatriclans and paedopsychiatrists In the children's departments,
which are established in psychiatric inatitutions,a close co-operation is necessary.
The most suitable method in future will be to place this department into the sepa-
rate Mependent complex children's hospitals, where co-operation will find the
best pbasibilities. The paedopsychia trio t, would also be able to extend his field of
activity to the other children's departments. Author.(VIII. 7)

aniRa a optika, no.4, 1962, 101-104
PERIODICAL: JemnA mech,
TEXT: The succe---ful synthesis of single crystals at the
Research Institute for Single Crystals, Turnov has prompted the
present review, describing the working of alRali metal halide
single crystals into prisms, optical windows, lenses, cuvettes,
etc. Two specific aspects are discussed in detail: 1) Grinding-
abrasive materials and adhesives for sticking the ground crystal
faces to a suitable holder. Coarse grinding is effected by
an abrasive wheel, using SiC as the abrasive and turpentine or
glycerole as the liquid medium. The adhesive is composed of equal
parts of paraffin and Japan wax. For the finer grinding, a finer
mesh SiC is used. Turpentine has a superior dispersing action on
the abrasive powder and is preferred to petroleum, which causes
agglomeration.- 2) Polishing: This is carried out on a wax support,
consisting of paraffin, Japan wax and ozocerite. Certain

drawbacks of the wax polishing mass (insufficient thermoplasticity)
have so far not been completely obviated. Various abrasive
compositions are evaluated for polishing efficiency, e.g. Ceo 2
Fe2031 Cr20 3- ZnO, CaO, SnO 29 TiO 20 Al 203* MgO. Best and
most reliable results are obtained with SnO 2 . However, in view
of quality variations of commercial SnO 2, a synthetic material
was prepared (details of preparation to e published soon). For
the polishing of NaCl, KC1 or NH 11 Poll SnO is used as a
4 2 2
suspension in a mixture of butanol ana ethanol, to which a small
percentage of the aqueous solution of the appropriate salt was
added. For the polishing of KBr crystals, SnO 2 is suspended in
turpentine. The outstanding feature of the described method is
the excellent resistance of the crystal faces to' water vapour.
While crystal faces polished on a natural-silk cloth, particularly
NaCl crystals, deteriorate even after 1/2 hour exposure, those
polished on a wax support were completely preserved after one years

When the mitral lesion can be completely corrected and the rn~ocardial status is
ond (no fibrosis and good tone), it is advisable to remove the pericardiurn to a wide
9
extent over the ventricles. If the mitral lesion is not repaired and the myocardial
status is not good, it is possible to improve circulation by lessening the constriction
by performing a pericardectorny limited to the apex and the adjacent areas. After
pericardectomy there is no need to fear a lethal cardiac dilatation. Four patients
succumbed to cardiac failure in whom, without repair of the mitral lesion, a wide
rt-section of pericardium over the ventricles had been carried out. Two patients were
improved - one after repair of mitral stenosis with pericardial resection over the
ventricles, and one patient who had severe mitral insufficiency in whom the perir
cardiurn was resected only at the apex. (XVIIII, 9)

Title High Performance Drier with Natural Draft
Orig Pub Kvasny prumysl, 1957, 3, No 3. 49-51
Abstract A new 2-story malt drier with natural draft designed by
M. Ruzicka is described. A combined drying with smoke
gases and low pressure steam is used in the drier. The
fire box used so fat is replaced with hopper boiler of
Rojcck systems, and the heaters are replaced with laminat-
ed radiators with a great surface and the least resistance
to the passing air. The heat absorbed by water is util-
ized for heating air for drying and that flowing into
the fire grate. The drier performanee is 180 kg of ready
malt per 1 sq.m of grate in 24 hours. The heat consump-
tion is 1000 kcal per 1 kg of malt.
