Orig Pub : Vestm s.-kh. nauki, 1957, No 1i 38-46 Abstract : Biological and ecological research findings of the Botanical Institute of the Academy of Sciences USSR which were conducted 1951-1954 in the northern portion of the region between the Vo1g.% and Ural Rivers (Sara- tovskaya Oblast'). The flooding of the natural estua- ries for 7-12 days during the spring by a water layer 20-25 centimeters deep (2000-2500'eubic meters per hec- tare) makes it possible to obtain hardy yields of Card 1/2 USSR/Meadow Science. L. Abs Jour Ref Zhur - Biol., No 4., 1958,, 15436 crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum L. Gaertn.) and Rumanian lucerne CMedicagb ?2. With 20-25 day flooding by a 40-45 cm layer of water (4ooo-4500 cubic neters per hectare) (maximally allowable flooding), one will find predominating among the grasses: couch- grass, smooth brome, Alopecums ventricosus Pers.) licorice, the saltweed (golyy solonechnik), the wormwood (Artemisia salina), and sedges. The vaste-land and steppe vegetation should be destroyed by plowing up and sowing crested wheantgrass and yellow lucerne with irriga- tion at 2000-2500 cubic neters, and sowing couch grass, smooth brome and the foxtail grass, Alopecurus ventri- cosus Pers., at a rate of 4000-4500 cubic meters. In order to use the natural and artificial estuaries cor- rectly, tips are given on filling them in and the se- quence of flooding their various parts. ABSTRACTs In a previous paper (Ref 5) the authc>a-s had investigated the kinetics of oxygen adsorption or, Cerniniium, In order to in- vesticate the influence exerted by difforent stages of chemo- sorption on the properties of the surfaf~e, also their influence on the work Panction of the eleatron was investigated. The con- tact 7)otential difference was measured by means of a glass- coated standard electrode (Ref 6). A. Dillon, H. E. Far~sworth (Refs 2,3)-, this is explained by the fact that those scientists had worked only in a pressure range of 1.10~7 _ 2.10-5 torr. Adsorption of 0 on Ge occurs in two stager, a rapid one (2Ge + 0 2 3~2GeO) which leads to the formation of a monoatomic layer and is terminated within 5 minutes at 10-3 torrP and a al ow stage (2GeO + 02--->~~,20eO 2) which at 0-07 torr takes days to be concluded. Below a pressure of 10 torr the oxygen is adsorbed irreversibly, as the contact potential difference remains constant with subsequent evacu- ation to 10-6 torr. Moreover, the authors investigated the be- havior of adsor4ed oxygen at different temperatures (Fig 2). In agreement with reference 9, a drop in the work function was observed after heating the germanium in oxygen-free gas to 100 - 4000. As no desorption occurs, this is explained by the Card 2/3 reaction GeO 2+ Ge ~2GQ. If germanium is heated in oxygen- 67916 The Influence of Adsorbed Oxygen on the Work S/020/60/130/03/023/065 Function of an Electron Leaving Germanium. TITLE: The Influence Exerted by Water Vapor Upon the Reaction Between Germanium and Oxygen ilk PERIODICAL; Doklady Akademii riahk sssR, 196o, Vol. 133, No.~Iq PP. 148 - 151 TEXT: In the preceding papers (Refs. 1, 2) the authors proved that in the reaction between Ge and 0 a protective layer.forms on Ge, which corresponds to the adsorption of two'0 atoms on I atom of Ge. In the first, fast stage of the adsorption, a monomoleoular layer of GeO is formed, while in the slow stage a monomoleoular layer of GeO. forms. As the properties of germanium semiconductors change -under the action of moisture (Ref. 3), the authors investigated this effect in the following experimentas Oxygen was adsorbed on oxide-free geriaanium, after which water vapor was introduced into the experimental apparatus which, after some time was again removed by freezing out or sucking out. Fig. 1 shows Card 1/3 The Influence Exerted by Water Vapor Upon S/02f0 Of33/01/41/070 the Reaction Between Germanium and Oxygen B004 B007 that by the action of water vapor, the adsorbing capacity of Ge for 0 again rices. The passivating effeot of the pro,k*eotive layer is disturb- ed, and thicker oxide layers are formed. This ef)~eot was investigated by measuring iAhe difference of the contact potentials (Fig. 2). In pure Ge a linear dependence of the work function on log P H20 exists in the interval of partial pressure of from PH20 1.10-3 to 7 torr. With a further increase of Pt20 in the case of an increase of-the relative moisture from 50 to 100 %, a rap.-.-'. increase of the work function, however, occurs. This effect is reversible. After the water vapor has been pumped off, the work function again aasumes the value that corresponds to the pure germanium surface. In the case of an oxidized germanium surface, however, the change of the work function as the result of a disturbed structure of the protec- tive layer is only half as great. Fig- 3 shows that at high pressure, the increase of the difference of the contact potential is caused by an in- creased adsorption of water vapor. Fig, 4 shows the result of experiments with alternating adsorption of oxygen and water vapor. No steady state Card 2/3 e 817,29 The Influence Exerted by Water Vapor Upon 8/020/60/133/01/41/070 the Reaction Between Germanium and Oxygen B004/B0O7 sets in because after every contact with water vapor the protective layer is destroyed and germanium becomes capable of adsorbing further oxygen. In this way, the authors explain the aforementioned change on germanium semiconductors in a moist atmosphere. Ifp howeverg on germa- nium which is oxidized0on the burfaceg triohloromethylsilane is adsorbed and polymerized at 150 0, the action of water vapor may be eliminated because the layer has.beeome hydropho-.)io. A procedure for the efficient coding of the state of a partial automaton SOURCE: AN SSSR., Izvestiya.. Tekhnicheskaya Idbernetika, no. 5, 1965, 103-107 TOPIC TAGS: automaton, coding, computer coding, computer storage, storap device A138TRACT: one of the possible ways of solving the problem of coding the internal states of an. automaton is in- searching for the -coding version with which the function of excitation of every. elementary automaton depends on the minimal number of variables. Such a coding 1procedur e, termed efficientj makes, it possible to obtain a relatively simple block diagram of the automaton, *hich is often close to, or coincides with, the optimal. -The basis of the known methods of searching for the efficient, version of coding Is the concept of separation of the set of the state of the automaton. The present authors present a more general concept of separation- and de-~,elop a method of efficient coding which is applicable to complete, as well ae- to partial,'antomatons. The. examples used to test the applicability of the procedure are automatons realized oin storage, cells with two states. It Is noted that the procedure described as wen as the methods given elsewhere (R. E. Stearns, J.. HartmanIs. On the State Assign- men'..
