TITLE: New Investigations of Noise Level of the Tu-104
at Take-off (Novyye issiedovaniya shuma Tu-104 na
vzlete)
PERIODICAL: GrazhdanBkaya aviatsiya, 1958, Nr 7, pp 24-25 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The authors refer in an introductory note to an article
concerning the noise characteristics of the Tu-104 published in
the February issue of this periodical. The present article re-
lates the results of continued investigations, especially at
take-off, and at 20-250 C ambient temperature. The results are
given in the text and on'a chart, while a table gives the noise
levels of other aircraft, including several foreign airliners
for comparison. Recommendations are given on how to accomplish
a take-off with minimum disturbance for neighboring populated
areas.

TITLE: Airfield-Zound Absorbers

TEXT: The sound absorbeis designed for Tu-104 aircraft are described.
The first one is mounted on two trolleys, has a control panel, Is drawn up to
the aircraft by a tug truck, can be driven around the aircraft by means of its
front trolley, powered by an electric motor fed from local network, at a speed
of'iA km/hour. In Its ejector pipe the exhaust gases mix with the air and get
cooled. The noise suppressing elements include a diffusor and a cylindrical
section. There is a fan at the entrance into the main section and a baffle
plate at the outlet. This plate deflects the stream of gas upwards, thereby
protecting the airfield ground and reducing the noise. The second sound absor-
ber for intake gases is of plate type, for the suppression of high-frequencey
noises. It is mounted on ZIL - 5858 chassis fitted with special hydraulic
jacks for proper positioning. Sound absorber of these types will soon be sup-
plied to airports of the GVF. There are 2 figures.

Title :On the Suitableness of the Mustarta, Seed Meal
as Feed.

Abstract: The mustard seed meal of the Saratov Oil Plant
No 1 contains about 4% protein, 5% fat and 27%
non-nitrogenous extractive substances. The mus-
tard seed meal may be fed for a short time to
swine, sheep and poultry in the amount of 10 to
20% of the total nutritive value of the ration;
for a prolonged feeding of cattle, it may be
given in the amount of up to 2.5 kg. per day.
To insure better consumability of the mustard
seed meal, it should be used in combination with
other feeds.

Abstract An experiment in which Alatauskaya cove vere crossed
with a purebred Jersey bull demonstrated that milk
yields avd the milk's fat cortent of hybrids are
higher than they are in their mothers. For 210 days
of incomplete lactation 3544 kg of milk vith an
average fat content of U6 percent vere obtainod

Title Inheritance of Butterfat Productiveness in the Crossbreed-
ing of Dairy Cattle in Kirgizia.

Abstract 7he crossbreeds of the Ala-Tau and Kirgiz cattle showed a
higher milk and meat productiveness than the initial breeds,
and preserved the valuable qualities of the Kirgiz cattle.
The Tagil bulls, in the milk of the mothers of which there
was 4.4% butterfat, were crossed with Aulle-Ata cows yield-
ing 3.7% butterfat. The average fat content in the milk.
of the crossbreeds was 3.6%. The milk yield in crossbreeds
was higher than the milk yield of other local breeds. In
the crossbreeds resulting from the crossing of the Ala-Tau

cows with Jersey bulls, the fat content in the milk was
4.66% (in Ala-Tau cows it was 3.80 and 3.71%). As to the
fat content in the milk, the crossbreeds were closer to the
Jersey bredd; as to live weight and milk yield., they approa-
ched the Ala-Tau cattle.

PURPOSE: This collection of articles is Intended for engineers and
technicians of metallurgical and machine-building plants, senior
students of schools of higher education, staff members of design
bureaus and planning institutes, and scientific research workers.
COVERAGE: The collection contains reports presented at the fifth
annual convention devoted to the review of the physicochemical bases
of the steelmaking process. These reports deal with problems of the
mechanism and kinetics of reactions taking place In the molten metal
in steelmaking furnaces. The following are also discussed: problems
involved in the production of alloyed steel, the structure of the ingot.
