,,ABSTRACT: The author estimates the probability of collective li absorption by the

.molecules of a molecui~~/crystal under conditions when the interaction between mole-
.cules may be quite large, owing to the short distances between them. This absorption
is of second order in the time-dependent perturbation theory and is realizable only
in intense laser beams.' Particular attention is paid to the case when the transition
to one of the exciton states from the ground state is forbidden. It is shawn that
even if all the exciton 'scattering meebanismp are neglected, the absorption line in
such a case broadens into a band., and an expression is obtained for the frequency de-
p�ndence of the intensity of this absorption. The integral intensity of the absorp-
t.i6n is found to be governed essentially by the energy of the resonanb dipole-dipole
interaction between neighboring molecules, since the ratio of the integral intensity
,$o the intensity of the usual single-electron absorption is propor-tional to the square
..of the energy of the resonant interaction of the neighboring molecule;3. It is in-

dicated in conclusion that such a two-exciton absorption can be observed experimental-
ly also as a unique frequency-division effect,, since the excitons produced as a re-
sult of the transition are de-excited independently of each othery witb frequencies

possible, the irrigation systems of the collective
farms had to undergo reconstruction, vrith the Volgo-

Don Base of the Melioration Station) doing the or-
Sanizational work. The digging of tempora-ry irriga-

tional canals to feed the sprinklers with water was
carried out by ITU-2000A-type trench digC;ers ana

varied from 0.50 to 0.80 m in depth and from '.8 to

3.2 m in width. The sprinklers' capacity, at a sprink--
ling rate of 270 M3/hactare, came to an average of
9.5-10.0 hectares in a 11 0 t 11.5-hr long period;
at a sprinkling rate of 4;0 ms/hectare, only 5.? to
6.0 hectares were irrigated. The combined sprinkling
and fertilizing of potatoes at the fertilizing rate
of N17P25"ll per hectare resulted in a crop increase
from 147 to 188 centners of potatoes per hectare or

problems considered is that of finding a piecewise analytic

First a short historical survey of the development and thQ present rusearch
centers in the CSR is given. The main part of the artiQls deals with the e-
numeration of the present attainments in the field of electrotachnical pro-
duction. The greatest hydrogenerator of the Stalingrad ChKD has the fol-
lowing technical data- power-6o NVA) voltage lo,5 kV..50/o.23o/577 rot.,/
min.,standing wave. It is planned for a blade-system hydro turbine. The a-
xial pressure on the pivot bearing is 88o t.- There are pr7ojacts for.air-
cooled turbogenerators having a power of from 2,5 to 70 MVA, 3ooo rot./min.
In 1953 the first turbogeneratro with hydrogen cooling and-with a power of
62,5 MVA, ll,ooo V, 3ooo rot./min. was completed. Induction motors of the
enclosed type are produced up to 5,ooo k7[. Since 195o all induction motors
of from 0,6 to loo k7f have baran produced in one single series. In this.way
140/0 of the copper was saved. The largest direct-current motor has a dia-
meter of armature of 4,ooo mm and a r of 3,80o W, 54,4 rot./min.,
6oo V. The largest transformer, has 4007or of loo ITA, 22o/llo/lo.5 M It
is remarkable that with this transformer a swith at the imput of the 22o-kv
windings was mounted for the first time in Europe. The existing metallic

Abstract LTuthors' Baglish summary modified 7: Idiopathic famil-
ial hyperlipemia is a condition which is very rarely diar.-.nosed.
It is a general metabolic disorder, which is probably inborn. if
it is diagnosed early enough, and treated immediately, the patient
can be spared great suffering. The authors describe a family whose
members suffer from the disease. In two brothers the complete syn-
drome was present. The etiology, differential diaRnosis, labor-
atory examinations, and treatment of the disease are discussed.

~~two-or three-stage process in which the semiproduct undergoes gradual pressing or
piercing operations which result in reducing its diameter by 70-9576. Between the

forming operations, the billet is cooled and then by annealed at 800-850C and again
slowly cooled; it can also be cooled at a controlled rate in the furnace. The surface
of the hollow (inner cavity) has to be pickled and machined before each pressing.
Afterwards, it is either rolled on a pilger mill and normalized at 900-1150C, or
annealed at 680-800C, and its surface is then finished by pickling, pickling and
blasting, or pickling and leaching. [KP]
