ABSTRACT: The antiphage action of a substance present in cultures of
Actinomycea,gZobiaporua (strain 81) on various organic media was
studied using special sensitive actinophage strains. This antiphage
action is removed by high-molecular-weight DNA of the thymus or DNA
from other sources (calf pancreas and herring sperm in these experi-
menLa), but low-molecular-weight products of enzymatic or acid hydroly-
sis of DNA of the,thymus, RNA, and albumin do not neutralize the anti-

Actinomycea gZobieporus culture fluid was active against gran-positive
bacteria (Staphylococouc auraud,~209, BaciLlup qubtilis,~,,,Baoillus MYCO-
ideo, and Sarcina-lutoa), but w1a inactive with respect to gram-nega-
tive bacteria, yeasts, and fungi. It has been demonstrated that prepa-
ration 81 retards the growth of some transplanted animal tumors, such
as Ehrlich aacites tumors, and cultures of human cancer cells. Analy-
ais of preparation 81 shows the presence of amino acids and the sugars
xyloaa, arabinose, and glucose, suggesting that the sub 'stance ia-a

TITLE: Photochromism and electron paramagnetic resonance
of a-(o,p-dinitrobenzyl)-pyridine (1)

TEXT: The authors discuss the mechanism of tautomeric
radical conversions taking place in a-(o,p-dinitrobenzyl)-
pyridine (1), caused by the exposure to light, (1) was prepared
from oL-(bezizyl)-pyridine and recrystallized repeatedly from
alcohol. The melting points of the yellow and violet formii were
both the same (93 OC). I-N-CH a-(o,p-dinitrobenzyl)-pyridine
and N-CH3-a-(Oop-diriitrobenzyl3--pyridiiie were also prepared,--but
neither of them showed any phototropic or paramagnetic properties.
The e.p.r. spectrum was studied in a spectrometer with double
modulation of the magnetic field and with synchronous detection
and registration in the form of the first derivative.
Arrangements were made to heat the sample directly in the
resonator. The illumination wais by unfiltered lig-in-quartz lainp,

ABSTRAM The process of oil shale thermal treatment is closely connected
with time-changes 6f temperature field characteristics, both in
a single piece and in some section of lump (or granular) material.
The present article describes and discusses results of an ex-
perimental investigation of the dynamics of,a thermal field
changing in a lump and in a layer of granular oil shale under
condition of linear propagation of the thermal flux. In prac-
tice, the problem is reduced to the reproduction of temperature
field changes in a semi-bounded rod with one-sided heat supply.
The thermal flux propagates along the normal to the isothermal
Card 1/2 heating surface.
