ABSTRACT: An engineer since 1929, A. B. Chernin h" worked for years in developing
new techniques and equipment for rel protection76f electric power systems. In
this 60th birthday tribute, he is credited with leading the group which produced
the directives on relay protection, contributing to the development of a method for
calculating transient processes in long distance 400-500 kv power trarqmission lines
and with aiding in planning or the electric portions of power stations, substations
and power systems. The results of his engineering and scientific work have been
published 46 timesp he is a doctor of technical sciences (since 1963), and has
taught for 30 years at the Moscow Power Inetit!lte. Orig. art. has: 1 figure . 'CJPR

ABSTRACT: This article discusses the selection, storage, transportation, protection
of food, and the preparation of,hot meals during winter training exercises in the far
north. It includes the method of setting up, camoflaging and using field kitchens for
the preparation of hot meals under extremely cold weather conditions and the problem
of distributing hot food in view of decreased mobility of snow tractors and vehicles.

TITLE: Autamatio Devices in the Food Industry (Avtomaty v pishoh,7voy
promyshlennosti)
PERIODICALs Priborostroyaniya, 1958o Nr 7, I)P- 9-1~ (USSR)
ABSTRACT: In milk production, in the a&usage-, sugar-, canned food-, and
beer industry etc. aut~.matization is beirg introduced in an ever-
increasing degree. In the USSR more than 70 different kinds of
food are available in form of parcels containing a certain accu--
rate4, weighed portion of the food concerned. Special mention
must be made of a conveyer band for packing food in tin cans
which was develoreA and introduced between 1950 and 1952. The
band consists oV 16 machines, il. is operated by oaly 8 persons,
and it produces 300 cans per minute.
Nevertheless, the machinebuilding industry is atill facel with
the task of solving the problem of manufacturing cans by the
drawing and punching methoas.
Special attention must further be paid to the manufacture of cans

are of metal. By meana of this type of cans it is possible to
save much expense, and it is essential that new automatic machines
be devAloped for thi manufacture of Buch receptacles.
Automatic weighing- anti packing machinea nay ba olassified in two
groups I
a) Au-tomatio, machines that prod,,ice -the receptacle, wtigh-lin the
portion of food, and then close the car..
b) Automatic machines that only do the weighing-ir. and closs the
packages.
The first grcmp includes the automixtic machiv-! AP2B (%reighin&-in
and packing of cocoa powder - 60 packets n-r,iainute) , and the
second includes the au-toma ti,~ machine APA t for s emolira, cane
sugar, etc. - 60 packets of 0.5 or -1 kg per mi.nute).
The automatic machine APB, produces lsrge parcels ('50 per miniate).
Another tyke of automatic machine is th, -.acking mac;hine EKF
which wraps up candy in parciffnent. The ex'fialency of such machines
can be increased only if the packing material is of first-class
quality.
Among the packing machines wILich work with thermoplastic material

T I T LE A case of fatal electric shock from an electric current at
12 volts. (Sluchay smertelnogo porazheniya elektricheskim

FE PIODICAL: "Vestnik Elektroprom:vshlonnostill (Journ 1 of the Electrical
Ina-u-stry) 1957, Vol. 28, N-o.4, pp. 95 - 76 (U.S.S.R.)
ABSTRACT: This describes a fatal accident with a home-made outdoor
burglar alarm operated at 12 vol-ts a.c. through a step-down
transformer. After the accident the equipment was inspected
and found to conform to the safety rules and the insulation
was in good condition. At the inquest it was found that the
death was caused by electric shock, contact with the live
conductor had been through the rilght-hand side of the neck.
It is supposed that contact was made in the region of the
carotid sinus which led to heart failure. T'his is the second
recorded fatal accident at 12 volts and points to a need for
revision of the safety rules according to which 36 volts a.c.
is considered safe in places of zpecial danee:,~. It is empha-
sised that the place of contact with the body is most important
in cases of electric shock.

Title : The Antihelminthic Properties of Oxygen in t.scaris Invasion of Pigs
Orig Pub: Prob. Parasitologii, Kiev, AN USSR, 1956, i7q
Abstract: Piglets (236 heads) 2-6 months of age received oxygen through a
stomach tube from an air-cushion or Oxygen chamber in about I - 3
liter doses once or twice with an interval of 24 hours. The exit
of ascaris began 24 hours after the oxygen supply and lasted for
3-4 days. By coprological examinations the absence of ascaris was
determined in 41.9 percent of animals after a single dehelmenthi-
zation and in 53-4 percent after the double. In opening of 5 Pig-
lets it was found that the oxygen damages the young form and is not
sufficiently effective in relation to the half-grown ascaris. In
the piglet infections with the semi-mature and imature forms a 100%
recovery was effected with a combination treatment of santonin and
02. No unfavorable side-effects from the use of oxygen were noted.
