This makes it necessary to construct a linear theory for the self excitation of the oscillations in the semiconductor for the case hen the semiclassical approach used in the earlier papers is no longer valid. Con- dition5 are derived for the occurrence of growing oscillations when the inhomo6encity brought about by a change in the transverse cross section of the sample, and the frequency of the oscillations is determined.
