ABSTRACT; At the beginning of 1958, a conference of directors of 18
agricultural vuzes of the Ukrainian SSR took place at tho
Kharlkovskiy zootekhnicheskiy institut (Khar1kov Zootech-
nical Institute). Its purpose was a further improvement
in the training of agricultural specialists and primarily
the practical training of students. Representatives of
the followinp organiza-tions participated at the conference:
the TsK KPSS and the TsK KP Ukraine; the USSR and the
UkrSSR 11iniatry of Agriculture; the USSR and UkrSSR Min-
istry of Higher Education; the Kharlkov obkom KFU and the
Kharikov Oblast Administration of Agriculture; Scientists
of the Moscow Agricultural Academy imeni K.A. Timiryazev
and a number of RSFSR agricultural institutes; Directors
of institutes, experimental -training farms. Docent P.V.
Salata, Director of the Belaya Tserkovl Agricultural In-
stitute, stated that.the institute's 47ork, according to the
new teaching plan has given positive results during the

increase in the actical training time in agronomy and
zootechnics by 1 times. In his report Professor, Doctor
of Agricultural Sciences lat-I. Kniga, Director of the Khar-
kov ""ootechnical institute, showed the advantages of the
new curriculum ir, combining the studentsf theoretical and
practical training. V.V. rozanenko, Member of the Board
of the UkrSSR Ministry of Agriculture, pointed out that
the agricultural institutes of tne Republic have consider-
ably expanded the training of those agricultural specialists
who have been working at their job, while studying. Though
the training of students at the correspondence facultieo
has improved in recent years, there are still many serious
deficiencies. V.V. Syrovatchenko, Deputy chief of the
Main Administration of Agricultural Vuzes, USSR Ministry
of Agriculture, told the conference about strengthening

ABSTRACT- The analysis of key methods (klytxchevyye sposoby) of
plotting engineering surface forms shows that many of
them are special cases of a more general method, cal-
led I'method of competin surfaces" (metod konkuriruyu--
shchikh poverklinostey) ~I.I. Kotov, 1957). The -theo-
retical principle of this method is the descriptive
geometry of the four-dimensional space. The engineer-
ing application of this method is reduced to the con-
sideration of a complex diagram of three projection

structed complying with some given requirements,
The author cites such an example in which the construc-
tion is required of a smooth surface passing thru the
plane curves p (P19 P2)9 q (qlg q 2 and 1 (111 12 ) and
presenting the cross-section shape of their planes
parallel to the planes of curves p and q, as shown in
figure 2. The author then consideres a conoid and a
cylindroid and establishes the equations for the sur-
face i-11 which are compiled in table 1. The author

acquainted with ke~y methods of constructing surfaces
(Popov, 1837, Burachev, 1872). The author further
cites an equation for competing surfaces, selected
in such a way, that they correspond to the beam me--
thod (luchevoy metod) of building a Pavlenko key (G.
Ye. Pavlenko, 1935, 1948) or the trapezoidal method
of constructing a key (Kirikkov, 1937, Villyams 1951,
1957). Based on his investigations, the author holds
the following theorem for justified. "If two surfaces
competing in regard to a single projection plane, with
competing ribs, shall determine a smooth surface as
a derivative, it is necessary and sufficient that a
system of competing generatrixes may be constructed
on these surfaces, located simultaneously on the
smooth cylindrical surfaces to be projected, in re-
gard to a double plane of the projections",, The au-
thor arrives at the following conclusion: If it is
necessary to resort to composite keys ('sostavnyye

then for obtaining a smooth surface as a derivative,
it is necessary to select competing -urfaces with com-
peting ribs (konkuriruyushchiye rebr ), which deter-
mine the boundaries of adjecent keys in a general
composite key, in such a manner that they satisfy the
conditions of the aforementioned theorem. There are
51 diagrams, 1 table and 7 Soviet references.
