The single-crystal epitaidal layers (30--40 V thick and 3 x 3 or 3 x 6 mm in area) were rown on single-er7stal substrates of n-type gallium arsenide (300 11 thick), using 9 gas-transport reactions in sealed quartz ampoules evacuated to 10-5 mm Rg. The doping cadmium concentration ranged from 1017 to 101-9 cErs. The electric measure- ments were made in the temperature range TT-300K with a do potentiometAer method described by L. J. van der Pauw (Phil. Res. Rep. v. 13, 1, 1958), at voltages such that the shunting effect of the substrate did not come into play. Polarographic elec- Itrodes had been implanted in the heart muscle. Experiments took place 10-12 days iafter the animals had been operated on. Along with a continuous record of oxygen !tension (in relative units with 100% as a base under control conditions), EKG's and: ';the depth and frequency of,respiration were studied before and during the tests. A. 1polarographic determination of oxygen tension in the heart muscle during chronic, :experiments necessitates a study of how the myocardium is supplied with oxygen during the development of various types of hypoxia. However, no severe hypoxic disruptions 1were noted, and EKG's changed little in character. During brief exposure to altitudes I :of.8 and 12 km, oxygen tension in, the heart muscle was lowered at 48-15 6'.8 and i 42-75 7.4% respectively. In a number of experiments, the concentration of C02 in the ex- haled air was continuously recorded with an optico-acoustic C02 analyzer. Oxygen ten sion in the, cerebral cortex and in the subcortex was also measured by a previously described method (Kovalenko, 1961). It was found that oxygen tension in venous blood flowing from the brain through the external jugular vein is higher than in mixed ven- ous blood of the atrium dextrum under normal conditions as well as during hypoxia. During hypoxia, in addition to a lowering of p02 in the blood and tissues of the brail there is also a lowering in the tension of carbon dioxide in the arterial and venous blood from the brain. When hypoxia gas mixtures are inhaled, the addition of carbon C rd 1/2 UDCt 612.235 + 612.127 L 22783-66 ACC NRI AP6008035 dioxide causes a rise in p02 in arterial and, especially, venous blood flowing from the brain; concurrently, P02 increases in the brain tissues. During hyperventilation in addition to a sharp drop in PC02 an increase in pCO2 is noted in the arterial blood; simultaneously, there is a considerable drop in p02 in venous blood flowing from the brain. The authors conclude by suggesting that the latter fact be.taken in- to account in administering, artificial respiration during anesthesia and surgery, Orig. art. has: 3 figures. The 'unction were iproduced by epitaxial growing of GaP by the gas-transport method on sinale-crystal i substrates of n-type GaAs oriented in the (111) plane. The GaAs was doped with tel- i lurium. The single-crystal GaP films were doped during the growing with cadmium. 71hel J I film thickness was 10 - 30 ;4. The electric properties of the produced heterojunctions 1,were measured fro a large number of samples with different degrees of do-Ding of both the substrates and the layers. The procedure for obtaining the epitaxial films and their electric properties were described earlier (FTT v. 7, 2370~ 1965 and elsewhere)., CcLrd 1/2 ACC NR.- A:~-, 00 533o' The volt-ampere and voltage-capacitance characteristics were investigated in a temper-! ature range 77 - 4ooK. The dependence of the capacitance on the voltage offers I evidence of the presence of a layer of increased impurity concentration inslide 'he I space-charge region. The causes of this layer are discussed. The results are in- terpreted within the framework of the band model proposed by R. Anderson (Sol. St. Electronics v. 5, 341, 1,062) with allowance for the-presence of this layer with in- creased concentration of deep donor centers. The gaps in the conduction and electronj bands calculated on the basis of this model agree well with the experimentally de- termined quantities. The authors thank V. M. TVchkevich and D. N. The aim of this work was to examine critically existing method9for the determination of the parameters < r-3(n,Z )> , which determine the accuracy to which the quadrupole moments may be calculated, and to develop a more reliable and unified method which would give quadrupole moments of different nuclei with comprable accuracy. In tlie exis'ting methods the parameters are determined from (1) magnetic hyperfine, splitting constant, (2) fine structure constants, and (3) radial wave functions calculated by the self- consistent field method. The Al alloys tested comprised the A!-Si system (alloy AL4), the Al-Cu system (alloys ALIO-V and ALl), and the Al- Mg system (alloy ALB). The refining procedure of eZLch of these alloys is described in detail. In summary, the BC13 refining of the four alloys produced a favorable effect on the density and the mechanical properties of the castings (tensile strength, Card 1/2 The refining of cast Al alloys with trichloride. Parts cast out of AL4, ALIO-V, and ALB alloys rAned by means of B.C13 exceeded ordinary parts by 1 to 2 scale grades in porosity; parts with a rough weight of 80 14:g cast out of ALI alloy refined with BC13 were equivalent in density and mechanical properties to similar castings cast in autoclave, The method of BC13 refining is recommended for the improve- ment of castings of alloys AL4,, ALIOV, ALI, and ALS and, in some instances, to replace the casting of parts in the autoclave requiring a density of 2 to 3 on the conventional scale. For this reason the physico-chemical analysis of the double system consisting of formic acid and its most simple dialkyl substituted amide, the dimethyl formamide, is of both theoretical and practical interest. There are only contradicting references on this system in publications, i.e. that its components form azeotropes with maximum boiling temperatures (Refs 6,7). In the present paper the author Card 1/2 aimed at investigating some physico-chemical properties of a Physico-Chemical Analysis of the Formic Acid - SOV/79-28-11-2/55 Dimethyl Formamide System. Density, Viscosity, and Elootrio Conduotivity in tho Formic Acid - Dimethyl Formamide System the above-mentioned system, first of all density, viscosity, and electric conductivity insofar as the results obtained agreed with the present idea of the properties of such systems. Thusp density, viscosity, and electric conductivity in the dimethyl formamide - formic acid system were determined at 20, 25, 80, and 1000. The isothermal lines of viscosity and electric conductivity, the curves of the electric conductivity temperature coefficients as well as the cryoscopic determinations of the molecular weight tend to show the presence of the compound HCOOH'HCON(CH3)2. The production of the special multiplier for the scintillation-sDactro:aeters (P a Y -29 was recently begun. It has a good amplitude-dissblving Power which is guaranteed by the comparatively high sensitivity Of the cathodes of the device. The integral sensitivity is higher -1 " -1 "b1 ue one , the , on the average 40 - 45)a A lm than 30 p A lm is higher than 6)u A m1-1 which corresponds to a quantum discharge of more than 9 ~ at X ;~ 4000 ~. The cal- culations of the maximum time-of-flight gradient in this multi- plier system with grid yielded a quantity of 40-10-10 sec (at a voltage of 100 V/cascade which is 3 - 4 times less than tn the multiplier-syBtem H4646 preference 3)- 4-) The beat ratio of the signal to tte background in the wave- -range of 5500 to 8000 1 is given by the bismuth-silver-cesium ca- thodes. The experimental samples of multipliers with such cathodes are produced in two sizes: that of the (1)3Y -29 and in a smaller size. The multipliers have 11 cascades. Their integral sensitivity of the cathodes on the average is 45 50 A lm-'. The amplifica- tion is of the order of magnitude 105 lot at a full supply-vol- tage of 1400 - 1600 V. The smaller multiplier is distinguished by a great Vibration-strength. 5.) The miniature-FEV.
