Reactions of Chlorine-containing-Telomera of S/079J60/030/05/11/074 Diane Hydrocarbons. III. Production of B005/B0O2 Aldehydes and Ketones From the.Products of the Addition of Tertiary Butyl Chloride to Divinyl Chloroprene acetone in the presence of sodium alcoholatel diene ketones were obtain- ed in the form of pale-yellow oils with a pleasant small. The infrared spectra of the two ketones (2,2-dimethyl nonadiens-4,6-one(6), and 4-chlaro-2,2-dime Ithyl nonadieneI416-ono(8))respectively, are likewise shown in Fig. 2. On the hydrogenation of.-aldehyde (1) in the presence of colloidal palladium, the main resulting product is 5,5-dimethyl hexanal, whicht however, contains an admixture of the corresponding alcohol. Eance, hydrogenation does not proceed selectively under these conditions. Investigations reyealed.that.the telomerization reaction can be applied to the production of a number.'of unsaturated aldehydes and ketones with a quaternary carbon atom from diene compounds. All the operations are described in great detail in the experimental part of the paper. Yield, boiling point, refractive index, density, and characteristic frequencies of the infrared spectrum are specified for each of the products obtained. The infrar d s5eitra were taken by means of a spectroph.5~tometer of type MMM-14 (1 .14 oxand an apparatus of type MKC-2 (IKS-2)Aras used in one Card 3/4 8/079/60/030/010/014/030 BOO1/BO66 AUTHORS: Kolyaskina, Z. These ketones are colorless oils, insoluble in water, of pleasant odor, readily forming crystalline products with hydrazine derivatives. Two frequencies in the infrared spectrum of the ketones indicate the presence of a double bond) and in the spectrum of the ketone (I) there is one frequency to be assigned to the group -OH-CH-(trans). The frequencies of a vinyl group are missing. On con- densation of the same.chlorides with sodium malonic ester, the corre- sponding alkenyl malonic acid esters result, but with lower yields (Scheme 2). Like in the reaction with sodium acetoacetic ester, that with sodium malonic ester takes place without allyl rearrangement4 In the infrared spectra of the esters (III) and (V), as Nell as of the acids (IV) and (VI), the.characteristic deformation frequencies ol '' the vinyl group are absent (Fig.2). The spectra of the ester (III) and[ of the acid (IV) show sufficiently intense frequencies of the group -CH=CH-. The investigation consisted of metallographic aral m, defective see- pds'of samples cut from "healtIVI and fro tions of ingots, and ti-te comparison of their compositions and structurese Metal- t Card 1/2 -A Acussiou NRt APOW388 ilographic study showed that defective sections were richer in carbon., aluminum., -,-a aluminum oxides, Large ailicate inclusions of complex composition with multi-11*1 ple aluminato inclusions were found to be distributed regularly in the direction. :of deformation. Corundum represented the basic part of the precipitate and ioccurred in the form of transparea colorless grains (N 1.767). SPinel and :titanium were less common. The precipitate also contained colored anisotropic ;inclusions with N 1.775. The experiments revealed that the dark. crust orig- :inated in the deadhead zone and penetrated the body of casts during the crystal- Ilization period. Defects caused by- crust formation were eliminated by preventing the chipping of the crust and its subsequent sinking into tla metal. This was achieved by decreasing,.the heat of flux by sprinkling lun1cerite 23,. vermiculite posuder, or chamotte over the ingots (2 kg per ton of metal). (Ratsionaltnaya konstruktsiya kristallizatora dlya nepreryvnoy razlivki stalif Russian). PERIODICALi Stal't 1957P Vol 17, Nr 3, pp 209 -213 (U.S.S.R.) Receivedt 5 / 1957 Reviewed, 5 / 1957 ABSTRACT: The first industrial test plant for semi-co 'ntinuous casting of steel in the U.S.S.R. is installed at the factory "Kraenyy Oktyabrl". Non-corrosive steel of a diameter of 150 x 600 mm. and a length of up to 6 m is cast. After the crystallizer is filled with metal up to from 200 - 300 mm from the upper edgeo the ex- tracting device is automatically switched in and the block with a liquid core leaving the crystallizer reaches the zone of intense cooling. Since 1951, when the plant was put into operationg several constructional improvements were introduced, the most important of which was the replacement of the immobile crystallizer by a lighter one which could move backwards and forwards. The three constructions at present in use are compared: the immobile one, the constructions on springs, and the one with a backwards, and for- wards motion. Immobile crystallizers are being used by Babkock &'Wilkor in the U.S.A., Bdhler in Austria, and "Krasnoye Sormovoll. The latter type was an effective means of preventing thehardened ex- Card 1/2 Aerior layer from getting stuck in the crystallizer as frequently PA - 2413 The Rational Design of the Mould for Continuous Casting of Steel. happens in the case of the immobile crystallizer because the ex- terior layer of the ingot when being lowered is immobile with re- spect to the walls of the crystallizer. The new crystallizer allowing a backwards- and forwards motion, whioh has been in Use since 1956 , w63,~hs only 1400 kg, is considerably more simple, and less expensive. The elimination of "getting stuck" makes it pos- sible to arrange-remote control and automatization of-the pro- cese of continuous pouring. Besides, the new crystallizer has greater strength. TITLE: On the mechanism of the ( 1r r n) reactions SOURCE: Yadernaya fizika, v. 2, no. 1, 1965, 144-150 TOPIC TAGS: pion scattering, carbon, scattering matrix, neutron scattering ABSTRA"'T: The croes section for the reaction C 12 (r-,r-n)Cll was cal- ~ulated In the pole approximation for incident negative pion energies in the range from 40 to 600 MeV, for the purpose of comparing the "culations with the experimental data of P. L. Reeder and S. S. c a.L Markcwitz (Phys. Rev. v. 133, B639, 1964). In the calculations, the matrix element of the 0 12 (r-,T-n)C 11 reaction is expressed in terms of the matrix elements for the virtual decay 0 12 --P C11 + n and for elastic ir-n scattering. The quantities required for the calculations card 1/3 ACCESSION NR: AP502OP-66 are taken from experimenta on scattering of pions by free neutrons, the pick-up reaction 012(p, d)Cll, triplet pn scattering, ard the re- action C12 (r-ir-n)o 11 itself, The reduced vertex part (neutron width) -for the virtual decay 012 --V Oil + n is obtained from the ab- solute value of the cross sections. This value agrees with that-ob- 12 ll tained from the pickup reaction C (p,d)C The results thus confLrm that in the energy region under consideration the principal moobanism 41 3 r 12(Tr- r-n)C 11 reaction Is the pole mechaniBm. In order to determine other quantities that characterize fast particles and are sensitive to the it-meson absorption mechanism, the authors investigated the angular correlations of the produced particles and the distribu- tion of the wicloon pairr, with reopect to tho rolative-wtion energy pi'Muced in such processes. The contribution of the phase volume to the angular correlations is first evaluated, and then the angular correlations due to the pale diagrams are determined.. Different distinguishing features of n-tj, n-d., ri-n, and n-p correla- tions are discussed and some results obtained by others are ccmpared. It is shown; that not only the experimental data an the relative yields and on the spectra of fast particles produced in these reactionss but also the available data on the angular correlation of the neutrons agrees well with the assumption that the a, particle pole diagr~mspredominate. On the other hand, the two-nucleon capture mechanism yields spectra and angular distributions which do not agree with experi- ment. It is pointed out that the assumptions on which these deductions are based must still be experimentaUy ,verified, Some experiments still to be performed in order to obtain more information on the subject are proposed.
