ABSTRACT: The authors discuss the procedures and results for setting up a mathemati-
cal model for thermal power installations based on promising steam turbine assemblies.
The Seidel method is used for all computations. The final equation is the product of
a whole system of assembly equations presented in vector form. This method may be
used to study the thermal characteristics of a particular unit with respect to a
large number of different units by logic coding. A universal program algorithm is
set up with respect to the number of assemblies and their connections for choosing
the type of assemblies or types of equation subsystems. The computations are verifie&l
on the BESM-2 digital computer. The results show a close correlation between systems

of equations in the functional parameter region. It is also shown that the number of I
iterations as a function of required accuracy in close to logarithmic, i. e. computa-
tional accuracy increases by one order of magnitude with each iteration. The machine
time for one iteration is 10-15 seconds. Most of this time is used in determining
the parameters of water and steam conditions at various points of the thermal system
by a special program. The mathematical model should find application in solving

Abstract: The principles for optimization of the make-up of modern large steam
generating plants are presented. Three algorithms are suggested which use the
ideas of dynamic programming, and problems of their application in computerized
calculation are analyzed. In analyzing the prospects for further aevelopment
and application of algorithms to the solution of the problem of selection of
optimal component heating surfaces of steam generating plants, the authors feel
that the moct important problems are: optimization of the design parameters of
heating surfaces, and optimization of the number of heating surfaces. The
algorithms presented in this article for optimization of the make-up of heating
surfaces allow a rather strict determination of the problem of the expedient
number of surfaces in a steam generating plant and of the design parameters of
the surfaces to be used. The principles and algorithms presented in the article
have been used in determination of the optimal component solutions of a steam.

flap. Salycilanide (I) was introduced orally in
a dose of 0-15 g/hg each for the duration of 25
days. Three dogs were taken for testing the action

ABSTRACT: A Conference held at the NIIShP (Research Institute for
the Tyre Industry) from 9th to 12th March, 1959 discussed
the aspects of oo -ordination of research mid ezerimental
work in the tyro industry* It was attended by represent-
atives of the tyre industry, of the central plant labor-
atories and the construction bfffceELz of the tyre industry,
of some Councils of -14ational Economy, of the Gosudarst-
venn~y Komitet Soveta Ministrov SSSR po khimii (State
Committee a1'tbb'CouAb11-bf-' Ministers of the USSR -for
Chemistry), of "Rezinoproyekt", of Gosplan UkrSSR (State
Planning Commission for Ukraine) etc. The NIMP Deputy
Director for Research, V.F.Yevstratov reviewed the research
work of the Inbtitute during 195~.as well as plans for
1959, especially with reference -to the directives given
at the 21st Party Congress, He drew attention to the
fact that the quality of tyres was not entirely satisfact-

improved design of the tyres, and discussed the work
carried out at the NIIShPO -*he Opeaker emphasised
that by 1965 the tyres of Soviet manufacturers should
-be able to compete Oth Western production. Further
papers were read by the chief chemists of the laborat-
ories and construction "'offices. of the Yaroslavl', Moscow,
Omsk,, leningrad, Voronezh and Kirov-*- tyre factorieso
These speakers reviewed the use of new types of synthetic
rubbers, cords and carbon black and the improved design
of tyres for cars, agricultural machinery~etc. P. F. .
Badenkov, Director of the Upravleniye shin (Tyre Administra-
tidn) and RTI of the State Committee of thaGb=dil.of
Ministers of the USSR for Chemistry, recommended that
the research and experimental work of the plant laborat-
ories and construction -.offices: should be reorganised.

ABSTRACT: The system considered is illustrated in the diagram of
Figure 1. For the purpose of analysis it is assumed that
the surface waves can be neglected. The external surface
of the sheet is infinite along the axis z and edncides
with the plane x = 0 . The surface is limited in the
direction of the axis y by co-ordinates y = 0 and
y ;= b . A plane wave propagates from the upper semi-space
and forms an angle y 0 with the plane x = 0 . It is
necessary to find the field at a point M which Is
situated in the lower semi-space. For this purpose the
elementary fields at point M due to the electric and mag-
neti.-- currents in the plane x 0 , should be added. If
