The author constructs a system (S) of ordinary differential equations with a
particular initial condition. It is asserted that the problem of the solub-
ility of existence problems is equivalent to the problem of whether or not the
system (S) has a real solution in the interval (_1,1) for every value of the

Abstract: The complement activity (CA) in hypersplenism,
associated with various diseases of the blood-
forming organs, is higher in the blood than in
the bone marrow. This difference disappears
following splenectony. It is the authors opin-
ion that this removes the anticomplement action
of-the spleen upon the bone marrow, which de-
velops in hypersplenism.

Electrode in Methyl Alcohol Solutions of KFI LiCl, NaCI and KC1
increase of the applied potential. The uuthors uesume
that the inttiraction of the ions with the electrode in
methyl alcohol ioutronger than in water and that therefore
the affect of the differont polarization power of the
ions can be more easily recognized. Bueed on the measurements
carried out by the authors (Ref 4) with 0,1 N-oolutione
of LiCl I NaCl, and XF as vrell as with a saturated solution
of KC1 in methyl alcohol it can be concluded that in the
case of sufficiently great negutive potentials (more than
-1,2) differences in the capacities occur. The capuoity
io with a given vulue of the potential the greater the
3mallor the polarization power of the kationa. The kations
with the same polarization power must in the case of the
same applied potential cause the formation of a double
electric layer Of the same capacity. Because of the difference
of the concentrations of the used solutions the negative part
oftheozve of KC1 is lower than the negative part of KF.
