ABSTRACT: A formula for P, the degree of circular polarization of
internal bremsstrahlung accompanying a unique first forbidden beta
transition, as a function of K, the energy of the bremastrahlung
quantum, is derived in the Born approximation using conventional
methods for V-A interactions. The formula for P is integrated over
the energies of electrons and averaged over the angle between the
directions of emission of internal bremostrahlung quanta and the beta
electron. For the corresponding energy of the unique first forbidden

beta transition in Y90, the resulta of integration and averaging are
plotted in the form of a graph and are compared with the available
experimental dependence of P on K. The two are in only very rough
argumeht, especially in the region of small gamma-quanta energies.
It is noted that the most probable reason for the discrepancy is
that the Born approximation is not applicable to Y90. To explain
the disagreement it is necessary to increase the accuracy of measure-
ments and to take into account the influence of the Coulomb field on,

TITLE: The Cooling of Heated Filaments of Finite Length in a

ABSTRACT: A heated-ftlament. anemometer measures the velocity of
gas flow by the rate of cooling of an electrically heated
filament. The cooling due to condution into the filament
supports is often neglected. Several corrections for this
effect- have been published (L.V. King et al - Refs 1-7)
but a systematic investigation of the problem seem
justified. We assume a steady state, i.e. a. homogeneous
stream of gas of constant velocity which leads to a steady
distribution of temperature along the filament. The
filament loses heat by two processes: convection by the
gas and conduction into the filament holders. For cooling
by forded convection, the Nusselt number must be a
function of the Prandtl and Reynolds numbers only. The
Nusselt number is independent of temperature, Under these

ABSTRACT: The authors solved the problem of determining boron
in quantities of 1 to 5% in carbon steel. In the
first part known methods are described of separating
out and determination of boron. Diotillation from
a HC1 medium after CaCl dehydration was found to be
the most reliable methog, using titration for the
determination. A method of separation of disturbing
elements onto a Hg cathode was tried and adapted for
the purpose. This method yields slightly excessive
values ~about l./5% relative) and fails if Al is
present in excess of 1%. The Catex FN of Czech
manufacture was also used for separating disturbing
elements. On the basis of the obtained results a new

polyester fibers because of the unavailability of
brilliant und pure acarlets and reds in thd'dis-
perse colors series and the impossibility of ob-
taining fast deep-toned browns, blue-blacks, and
blacks in that series. The process used differs
from that used in the ingrain dyeing of cellulose
fibers: in view of the hydrophilic nature of the
naphthols, free phenols and naphthols in the form
of'aqueous suspensions at high temperatures are
used as the passive components [developing agents?]
and the diazotization is carried out simultaneously
with the coupling reaction directly on the fiber.

of Z,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid (1) at 100:0; two-bath
ayeing, using treatment with the amino at 1000 in
the presence of a carrier and at higher temperature
in the absence of a carrier. In both cases the I
