Abstracts /Authors' Enj7iish summary] Discoidal meniscus should not be
considered a congenital dofoct butan acquired one. It is a qu9st;on of the
meniscus inadequately affixed to the tibia. In this case the meniscus
becomes mobile and produces unequal prossure of the knee, find thus a discoid
meniscus is formed. The clinical symptomatology is typical with a stressed
knee jump followed by loud crepitE~tion in action. The absence of former
traumatism speaks in favor of this diagnosis. Sometimas there are signs
of the rupture of a normally formed meniscus. The authors enumerote
elements for a differential diagnosis. and give also their opinion that
this losion is not as rare as thought. They describa six petionts which

TW: The author notes that the following sources of systematic errors
affect mostly the precision of the parallactic (base range-finding, Reviewer)
method of distance measurement: 1) deviation of sight marks from the vertical
plane passing through the rotation axis of a rod denoting the end of the meas-
ured line, 2) rod length, which cannot be adopted equal for all observers.
Taking into account these error sources, the formula for calculating distan'ces
measured parallactically looks as follows: d = k ctg~+c, where,--/, is parallac-
.tic angle, k is coefficient, and c is a summand being 4termnined for a given
observer by means of special measurements, e.g., on a fiqld comparator. The
author describes an investigation of parallactic distance measurement carried
out on the basia of triangulation near Zagreb. A 8.3-km long base-was divided

where is parallactic angle and m(~ iAs rms brror of its measurement. How-
ever, distances measured parallactically should have had larger values. To
clear this up, the c-summand was determined in 8 traverses at each mounting V
of the rocl: its value varied from -5.25 to -6.75 mm, whereas according to the
results of laboratory tests c-7.29 mm. Since in the described measurements
the lengths of sides turned out to be shorter than they should have been, a.
conclusion can be drawn that measuremeht results are affected not only by sys-
tematic rod errors, but also by other errors including random errors of meas-
*urinZ parallactic angles. In so far as reduction of errors of parallactic an-
gle-'measurement does not increase the accuracy of distance determination, if
systematic rod'errors are not eliminated, it is sufficient to measure parallac-
tic an les with an error of the order of 1". It is recommended to lay long

TITLE: Frequency modulation with varactor diodes

TEXT: The author gives a mathematical analysis of the funcAions of varac-
tor diodes, known also by their US trade name "Varicap", when used in Fk,
circuits in lieu of conventional vacuum tubes. The advantages of a varac-
tor diode as regards dimensions, wear, consumption, etc., are of parti-I
cular importance in equipment where the weight, volume power consumption
and mode of operation are of primary consideration. As regards tempera-
ture characteristics, opinions in technical literature are still divided,
but it is generally assumed that in this aspect the tube has better pro-
perties than the diode. The upper frequency limit where a diode can be
used exceeds today 1,000 Mc and further improvements are still to be ex-
pected. Since the diode does not overload the dc source, the voltage can
easily be stabilized. Linear broadband modulation is achieved more easily
