The re-injection of a dase of anaphylact!c antigon proved to be"O
lethal in guinea pigs at nornt-d body temp. but not in anianals cooled
to 23-26'. Hypothermia had no effect cither on the sensitivity to
histamine injections or on the sensitivity of the broncbial muscles
to bistamine. It is concluded that the protective effect of hypo-
thermia is due to a slowing down of the ruiction between antigen and
antibody thereby diminishing the ainount of released histamine.
