ovaries, removed for other reasons, from patients without endocrinological syrnp-
toms; cystic ovaries found accidentally at autopsies. Examination of native prepa-
rations, frozen sections, and paraff in -block preparations, Fludings: (1) Microcystic
degeneration; usually unilateral; small ovary, grey lumpy surface; thin capsule,
with little collagen; the stroma contains densely packed foci of cicatrization; no
theca activity; corpora lutea and albicantia present; cysts caused by retention; no
clinical symptoms. (2) Polycystic ovary: usually bilateral; enlarged ovary; white
smooth surface; thick capsule, with deeply penetrating collagen, loose oedemntoug
stroma, with paralutein cells; marked theca activity, atretic follicles; cysts caused
by hypersecretion; clinically: hirsutism, obesity, meno- and metrorrhagias.- steri-

basis for rfticrocystic degeneration, while the polycystic ovary Is caused by hormon-
al disturbances, and, in Its turn, gives rise to other hormonal disturbances (endo-
metrium). The microcystic ovary does not have to be operated on; in the case of
Ste in- Leventhal's syndrome, resection of the ovary should be performed.

From the results of wedge-resection of the ovaries in 20 patients with ovarian
hyperthecosis, it is suggested that the main causative factor of the diseast-. is not
the ovarian changes. A disturbance of the hypophyseal -hypothalamic system is
presumed to be of primary importance in the Stein- Leventhal syndrome and to give
rise to Insufficient production or the 3rd gonadotrophic hormone, the luteo-marnmo-
trophic hormone. In the absence of this hormone no florid corpus luteum develops
and this explains the menstrual disorders.

A'description is given of a plum-sized tumour which had developed in the sperma-
tic cord of a 50-year-old man over the course of 37 yr. Histologically, the tumour
,. howed marked vacuole formation. Some of the vacuoles had given way to

opinions regarding the heredity, and consequently different terminology, of these
tumours. The author calls this an 'adenornatoid' tumour. and attributes its origin
to connective tissue.

Abstract: [Authors' Huncarlan summary] A case of primary aplastic anemia
of pregnaiicy is described citing similar cases from the worlJ literature.
Following a discussion of the etioloi:y as well as of the dLaj,'nostic, thera-
pautic and prognostic difficulties and possibilities or the
A discase, atten-
tion Is called to the importance of the hematological study and therapy
of pregnant patients with anemia. In the authors' opinion, an exact diagnosis
Is only possible after detailed and careful hematological studies and adequate
treatment or timely interruption of pregnancy can only be rendered in
an institution. In fortunate cases, such conditions may prevent a le'thal
outcome. The case described is illustrative of the fact that, under fatal
circumstances, neither the interruption of pregnancy nor planned hema-
tological treatment can prevent the progression of the disease and the
death of the patient. 5 Hungarian, 22 Western references.

TITLE: Matching of Generator and Load to Quadripoles With Loss Elements
PERIODICAL- Magyar Hiraihstecbnika, 1960, No. 6, pp. 223 - 230
TEXT: The author reviews the main matching couplings used in classical
radio-engineering. Quadripoles are characterized by their equations and can be ex-
pressed with equivalent circuits. They are determined by input- and output-imped-
ance and wave transmitting constant. The matching of generator and load with the
given impedance to a quadripole can be accomplished any time for the transmission
of the maximum effective power and maximum apparent power. The terminating, which
deviates from the characteristic impedance, may be taken as a reflection volt
source, the internal impedance of which is equal to the characteristic imped=-:-,~ Of
the quadripole. The condition for a reflection-free matching and for the trans-
mission of the maximum effective power is that the characteristic impedance should
be purely ohmic. In the first part of his article publishr_--d- In "Magyar Bidrad~,s-
technika", 1960, No. 5, the author dealt with matchings to L-, T-, and li-elements.
In subject part of the article he studies eight different types of matchings. He

IlExperi-mental Data on the Internal Shift of Electrolytes Concomitant With

Budapest, Margyar Radiologia, Vol XV, No 3, June 63, pages 164-170.
Abstract: [Authors' English stwimary modified] The shift of electrolytes in
0
the terminal phase of gastro-intestinal death in rats irradiated with 1200 r
has been examined by the authors. The tests were done 72 hours after irradi-
ation. Using the ]Na isotope and simultaneous inulin method, the chances in
the exchan-eable Na content of the organs, of the whole organism and of the
extracellular space were determined. No characteristic change in the Na con-
tent of the intracellular space was detected by the method. The shift of a
certain quantity of Na within the organism, directed from the extracellular
sDace into the severely damaged intestinal tract is characteristic oC 'he
terminal phase of the gastro-intestinal syndrome. 4 Hungarian, 24 Wester"n

Discusfses exptl smelting of Ni ores for obtaining
complete characteristic of compn and propertios of
sla,gs. Establishes th~tt slags with 10-12% FeO and
17-19% MgO are extremely difficult to melt an-A have
high viscosity. Presence of alkali metal oxides
in amount of 1.5-2.0l,".' reduces high fusibility and
viscosity of these slags, promoting their removal
from furnace. Such favorable effect of oxides
takes place only when total content of silica and
alLuninn does not surpqss approx 52~L,. Preaent-d by

of the moisture content of the charge (CH), Lhe Net con.5umpt-ion,
the amount of limestone (basicity) and return lines, and also thc
additions of blast furnace flue duazt. The investigations showed
than an increase in the moisture content. of the CH over 9. 9%
diminishes the output of the sintering equipment and impairs the
mechanical properties of the S despite a certain increase in
permeability to gas. Therefore, the optit-nun-i moisture content
of the CH should be determined not. only on the basis of the
maximum permeability of the CH to gas in the course of the
