ABSTRACT: The process of decay of photostimulated exoelectron emission in:4acuumq
as measured subsequent to plastic deformation (distention):~of aluminum, is~con-_
siderL-d. The tangent to the emission decay curve log N/t (0 at~points near
t = 0 is shown to depend on such factors as; a) the thickness of the oxide'layer
D, b) the external electric field E accelerating electrons c) the intensityl of
light stimulating emission, d) the procedure applied in preparingthe samples.
The value of the tangent (steepness) of the-curve 11/t (t) in the point t 0 is.
considered as a quantity characterizing the rate of decay of emission. It,is found
that the rate of decay of emission depends on factors opposing the outflow ~f

Abstract; [Authors' English summar"j modified] A few cases of methemoglobin-
----Tn-sheep are reported. In 1963-64, the disease was diagnosed on 6
emia
occasions in 20 carcassr--. Losses caused by emagency slaughter amounted to
114 animals, 5.7 per cent of the affected,stocks. On 3 occasion, the disease
was caused by the ingestion of nitrate fertilizers; in other cases, water
was drunk by the animals which contained nitrate or nitrite. The diagnosis
is established on the basis of the anamnesis, clinical symptoms and the ob-
servation of pathological changes. Laboratory tests such as the nitrate
content of the food in the rumen and of the blood and the blood methemo-
globin level are also useful, To prevent the condition, animals must be
kept away from such chemicals. Treatment consibts of i.v. injection of
0.01-0.02 g/kg of methylene blue dissolved in water. The results of this
treatment are reliable. 7 Eastern European, 29 Western references.

Abstract: [Author's English summary modified] The mass occurrence of
parenchymatous mastitis at a large dairy farm was observed by the author.
Pseudomonas aeru,;ino-qa was isolated in pure cultures from the udder excre-
tion of 19 clinically affected animals. An additional 34 strains of this or-
,,anism were isolated from the milk samples of 34 animals free of symptoms.
~he water used for washin;! of the udders was found to be the source of the
infection. The isolated strains had uniform biolo~:ical propcrties but tney
could be classified into srveral !roups on the basis of their serolo.-ical
and patho~-enetic properties. inves-tigations in this direction are still in-
complete. The cows with clinical symptoms could not be completely cured by
medication but chronic forms with abscess formation developed. However,
aYatematic antibiotic treatment of latent Infections gave satisfactory re-
sults. The results serve as confirmation of certain literature statements
according to which Pseudozonas mastitis can develop as a result of neglected

Abstract ; The results of experiments conducted to determine the
influence of a different degree of the pre-hydrolysis (PH)
upon indices of unbleached -beech cellulose (C) prepared by
the sulfate method are citede The evaluation of the PH

resulting from p1j. In a PH with a 12% weight loss in wood
pulp, an unstable viscose C is obtained. A viscose C of a

rate of heat inactivation of the enzyme, while redutAng the reaction order from

tion service in Poland. The author points out that
research work on a scientific and technical infor-

ferativnyy Zhurnal" periodical foresees publication
of 119,000 articles and other publications in the
field of chemistry in 1960. The first Polish pro-

cussed at the National Meeting of the Bibliotekarze
Bibliotek Fachowych i Dokumentali~cl (Librarians
of Technical Libraries and Documentarians) held at
the Dom Technika (Technician's House) in Warsaw,,
By order of the Rada do Spraw Techniczaych (Cou-n-
cil for Technical Matters), many projects on this
subject were worked out by a team of librarians
and documentarians appointed by the Stowarzyszenie
Bibliotekarzy Polskich (Polish Librarian's Asso-
ciation) during the following 1 112 years (after
1958). Finally, a definite project based on new
directives was worked out by the Urz4d Rady Minis-
tr6w (Council of M4nisters Office). Problems of a

and Technicians), and in the "Przegl4d Techniczny"
,periodical. Resolutions passed at the 4th Plenum
KC PZPR (Central Committee of the Polish United
Workers Party) require the NUT (Main Technical
Organization), and scientific and technical asso-
ciations to work out a considerably developed ac-
tivity program in this field. The activity plan of
the Komisja Biblioteczna NOT (Library Commission
NOT) for 1960 endeavors to initiate an increased
interest of engineers and technicians in scientific
and technical matters. The fundamental organization-
al concept of information service activities is the
principle of a centrally coordinated de-centralized
system. A similar principle has been introduced in

tion with the extension of the activity scope in
the information sprvice, the author suggests chan-
ging the name of the CIDNT, Centralny Instytut Do-
kumentacji Naukowo-Technicznej (Central Institute of
Scientific and Technical Documentation) to CIINTE,
Centralny Instytut Informacji Naukowo-Technicznej i VX
Ekonomicznej (Central Institute of Scientific, Tech-
nical. and Economic Information). The CIINTE will
have the following tasks: a) conduct scientific re-
search on the theory of methodology and technique
of information activities, b) management of a Centralna
Biblioteka Techniczna (Central Technical Library),
c) expert supervision and conduct of methodological
instructions, proper coordination of local technical
and economic information network activities. d) carry

the entire country, e) conduct didactic mid train-
ing activities for technical and economic informa-
tion personnel, preparing of suggestions and evalu-
ation of projects regulating problems of organiza-
tion, methodic and thematic work, information acti-
vities, and means destined for information activ:L-
ties, f) conduct publication activities and LIAISON
with publishing institutions, g) representation of
Polish scientific, technical, and economic informa-
tion service in Poland and abroad, and cooperation
with scientific institutions and social organiza-
tions such as NOT, trade unions, and others, h)
cooperation with the Polish scientific and techni-
cal attach6s abroad, and international institutions.
The CIINTE will be subordinated to the new estab-
