"Frequency of B. cereus in Fresh and Pasteurized Milk."

No-5, Sep-Oct 66, pp 423-430.
Abstract [Authors' English summary modified]: In a study of the
frequeScy of occurrence of B. cereus in 108 samples of milk, the
authors found positive results in 72.4 percent of the fresh milk.
samples, 86.7 percent of the bottled pasteurized milk, and 100
percent of the bulk pasteurized milk (directly from the pasteur-
izing machine). It was not possible to establish a correlation
between the presence of B. cereus and fecal contamination of the
milk. A total of 213 strains of B. cereus were identified; re-
sistance of the germs was lower in fresh than in pasteurized milk.

AUTHORS: Ioanesi, N., Engineer, and Ionescu, C., Engineer
TITLE: Molecular sieves, Their potential application in the pro-
duction of high-octane gasolines
PERIODICAL: Petrol Ti Gaze, v. 12, no. 10, 1961, 46o - 466
TEXT: After a brief introduction on the properties and application of
molecular sieves, the authors describe their application in the separation
of n-paraffinic hydrocarbons from the other hydrocarbons present in gaso-
line fractions, in order to increase the octane number of gasolines. The
authors briefly mention the "Molex" and "Texaco" processes, and present
some results obtained in a "Parasorb" pilot station. In this installation,
642 cu m/day of catalytic reformate with an octane number of 80, or 94
after ethylationg have been subjected to separation, producing 572 ou m/day
of "denormalized" product with an octane number of 89t or 99 after ethy-
lation, and 70 cd M/day of "normalized" product. Fig.6 shows the operation
principle of the "Parasorb" installation. All experiments have proved the

advantages of applying the separation process by molecular sieves in
addition to catalytic reforming. This combination has also been studied
in connection with the possible improvement of the catalytic reforming
process by previous treatment of the material by molecular sieves. Labo-
ratory tests have confirmed that the removal of n-paraffins before the
reforming operation has the following advantages; (1) increase in the
efficiency of the reforming installation; (2) achievement of the same
reformate at a lower temperature; and (3) use of the separated n-paraffins
as a raw material in isomerization, pyrolysis and fuel preparation* The
application of the separation process is especially advantageous in an
isomerizing installation with platinum catalyst. Tests carried out in a
pilot station to separate an isomerization product of the following com-
position: n0 6 -26-3% and iC 6 - 73-7%, produced in the desorption the
following three products: (1) a I'denormalized" product with a concen-
tration of 98-5% iC6 , representing 67-0o; (2) a low-pressure product,
the concentration of nC6 and 'C6 being approximately equal; and (3) a

desorption product with a concentration of 94-7%. The intermediate pro-
duct amounted to approx.10%; its recirculation or its use in isomerization
was possible. If no high degree of purity ii required, it may be admixed
to the "denormalized" product. The separation process with molecular
sieves is generally added to isomerization or even to isomerization with
additional catalytic reforming, allowing for the processing of gasoline
until a very high octane number is reached. There are 8 figures, 3 tables

One month after vaccination serum conversion was 79*41

corresponding values were 75 percent -and 1/40 to 1/80. Thus the
vaccination seems to confer a speciAc immunity, which so far,has
protected the vaccinated children against measles,

le virus rabioue fixe The antibiotic effect of a culture of Bacillus mesenteric"Is on- the
fixed virus of rabies Archives Roumaiaes de Pathologie Experimentale et de 'Microbiologie,
Bucharest 1948, 1511-2 (302-304)
Filtrates from cultures of Bacillus mesenterious, which are 17 days old, have an
antibiotic effect on the fixed virus of rabies. These filtrates remain active fdr 23 days
only. When one part of an emulsion of the brain and fixed virus of rabies is mixed with one
part of the filtrate, intracerebrally inoculated rabbits develop the disease after an in-
cubation lasting two days longer than in the controls ' If one part of an euiulsion of the
Wain and virus of rabies fixed at 1/100 is mixed with one part of the filtrate and kept at
370 for one hour, subsequent inoculation into rabbits by the intracerabral route does not
produce the disease.

Abstract: [English summary modifiedl Study of toxicity of Heclotox (garzaa-
hexachlorocyclohaxane with'3% lindane); Detox (DDT 25%) ald Duplitox (3.Y1.
DDT and 0.5% lindane) in sheep, rabbits and guinea pigs in~varying peroral
doses. Both by the lethal dose and by the effect on hernatologic data and
histopathology, sheep were much more resistant to all three of these pre-
parations on a mr)kg basis tnan the other two species. 3 tables, 7
