TFM i On the basis of experimental results obtained by Yeremin, Kittel,
Akulov, and Bitter, the authors studied Independently a new method, called
magnetic metallography, which Is intended to reveal various types of defects in
the crystal lattice structure of Fe, steel and alloys. The method makes it-
possiblet a) to reveal failure of metal compactness (porosity, inclusions,
cracks etc); b) to indicate characteristics of the Initial structure in the
cast metal; c) to determine chemical Inhomoge Ity of the metal, arising due
to primary crystallization conditions; d) to study struotural or chemloal
inhomogen-ty, caused by heat treatment,,resulting In a simplified and acoelerated
analysis of defects in the metal. The magnetic method of analyzing defects in
the metal consists in the examination of patterns, arising on the surface

The water and salt balarce was investigated In labourers working at high temperatures,

After i. v. injection of 50 mg. prolamine sulphate into men with previously 'cleared,
plasma, a lipid phase could be isolated from the plasma, made turbid again, which
showed the properties of prolamine bound to fatty acids. All the phenomena of the
relurbidification, including the regression of the electrophoretic changes, can be
attributed to the formation of prolamine soaps.

In 87.515 of the cases the effect of protamine led to a conversion of tile electro-
phoretic changes brought about by heparin. In W. of tile cases tile turbidity was
enhanced, in '28.6% the lipoid concentration was elevated. Conversion of all the
clearing phenoniena was obsel-ved in uivIv 1 (3 of the cases, presumably owing to
the sm.01ness of the dose of protamine used. In conversion of the clearinp phellu-
mena the prolamine is supposed not to act as an nittiheparin substance , but to
exert a specific action: being a highly basic protein it combined 'Kith the fatty acids
liberaled in the course of the clearing. In the form of macromolecular aggregates
these fatty-acid-protamine complexes may be the cause of the increased turbidity
and of the darkenang of the lipoid adsorption area in paper electrophoresis. The
electrophoretic mobility of these complexes decreases and thus the characteristic
changes occurring after heparin are abolished.
