ABSTRACT: The author obtained the ultraviolet (220-430 m~L) absorption
spectra (Figures 1 and 2, Table 1) of vapours and n-hexane
solutions of the system and of pure 5ubstances, using
a spectrophotometer SF-4. The spectra of nitrobenzene and
phenol obtained in this way agreed well witli the publxshed
data (Refs 10-1.2). The author measured also the optical
densities of several series of Lsomolar solutions of t1jo systell)
in the visible region of wavelengths (Figures 3, 10. From
the visible absorption spectra the author concluded that
complexes with compositions 1~1, 1-2~ 2 .1 are formed~

ABSTRACT: Data on photonoise (granularity) and on signal-to-noise ratio for vari-
ous photomaterials were practioally nonexistent in the Soviet literature. The
article offers a description of theapparatus used in e=erim-ents and the photo-
noise and signal-to-noise-ratio data for a number of Soviet and German films
(Mikrat, Kinopositiv, Kinonegativ, Panchrom) and plates (Agfa, nford ordinary).
Numbersof gradtions discernible on 100- and 2,500-sq.-aderon areas are given.
Table 2 (see Enclosure) compares characteristics of Soviet, German, and American
photomaterialsi Fromthe experimental gradation-frequency curves, it was found
that the panchromatic fine-grain film, Agfa Diapositiv plates, and MZ cinema posi-
tive tilm have the highest resolution, while the P-10 film and Agfa Astro plates,

ABSTRACT: This work was carried out in order to measure the intensity of noise
and the signal/noise ratio of various photographic materials. It was assumed that
noise intensity was related to the &anularity of material, i.e., the number of
the exposed grains in a uniformly 411umina ad section of the film. The experimen-
tal assembly consisted of a modernized MF-4 microphotometer,, a KM-1 quadratic
millivoltmeter,, and a M-95 microamperometer. Agfa plates and Ilford plates used

in astronomy and spectroscopys and various types of film(including Mikrat fi1JMS)
were studied. lt was established that: 1) the noise intensity showed & 3- to 4-
fold variation during the transition from fine- to coarse-grained materialsi 2)
the strongest noise variation was observed in the negative materialai 3) noise
intensity of fine-Crained negative materials differed little from that of positive
materials; 4) the signal/noise rati6 at a given film-blaekening density depended
strongly on the intensity or the fog, For this reason some materials of equal,
granularity had different signal/noise ratios@ Orig. arts has: 3 tables and 6

ABSTRACT: To date, the noise in electron-optical amplifiers, has been evaluated
either qualitatively or theoretically (S. B. McLane et al., Rev. So. Instr., 1964, 35,
10, 1297). The present article describes the method and the results obtained in the
measurement of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the amplifier output. The method
is similar to that used in photograpbv. The luminous flux at the amplifier output iras
varied by neutral light filters; the cell area was set.by an adjustable slit; the
frequency band was fixed by suitable frequency filters. This formula was usedt
SNR mL (i - id)R/0U_K , where i - photomultiplier current proportional to the
luminous flux, 'd - dark current, R - load resistance 0 Mohm), \M - rms noise
voltage indicated by an rms millivoltmeter. It was found that the sAt shape does
not affect the measured SNR; the SNR value essentially depends on the.alit-cut area
and vary slightly with this area location. An SNR a 15 was measured in an amplifier
having a gain of 8.67:~ 104, an input illumination of 0.005 lux*-, and'an area of

Approximation methods of analysis-of transients (Priblizhennyye metody analiza

biblio. 12,500 copies printed
TOPIC TAGS: linear aperiodic system, transient process , automatic regulation,
approximation method, linear system, Laplace transform, data sampling
I
PURPOSE AND COVERAGE: The book provides the mathematical apparatus necessary for the
analysis of transient processes in linear aperiodic systems. This apparatus may also
be used for computation of nonlinear systems in which the method of piecewise linear
approximation can be applied effectively. Thus, the mathematical apparatus presente
in the book can be used, for example, for the computation of various sampled-data
schemes or for the analysis of transient processes in automatic regulation systems.
The book gives examples of the applicatioft of this apparatus for the analysis of
some sampled-data schemes in semiconductor instruments. The book is intended for
engineers working on the design of radio devices; it can also be used by graduate
students.of radio engineering departments.

ABSTRACT: Let PA4V be the set of all functions defined on the set E"v
with the power U4, , and the values of which lie in this set.
The subset X is called complete system in P,-,,-, if its
-
Ref 1 7) is
closure aith respect to the ouporposition 0300 /
identical with P."W . The subset VC is called precomplete
class, if it is no complete system, but becomes a complete
system by adding an arbitrary.function belonging to P. and
not to ?J& . The knowledge of the precomplete classes yields
necessary conditions for the completeness of a system of
functions. In the present paper the author gives two pre-
complete classes and formulates two criteria of completeness
for special systems. Altogether there are 4 theorems. The
paper is a summary of the certificate of the author (1958)

s book is ntended for all those interested in the algeb
I of logic and theoretical cybernetics. The work is based on Post's work in the
algebra of logic and is essentially a summary of his "Two-valued Iterative
Systems". first published in 1941. The general concept of proof, the formulation
of many of the lemmas,, and some of the reasoning is borrowed from Post's work.
However, in an effort to simplify the presentation, the authors obtain a structure
for closed classes of logic algebra functions which is simpler than Post's.

ABSTRACT: The noise 'characteristics and the transient and frequency
response of injection modulators based on n-type Ge are investigated.1
Two samples in the form of rectangular prisms (35 x 5 x 3.5 mm), with
resistivLties of 10 ohm-cm (sample A) and 40 ohm-cm (sample B)) were
mounted on the opposite ends of a T-joint waveguide. The measure-
ments were made at 9300 He with a modulating signal applied directly
to the ohmic contacts. The pulse response of the forward biased'
junction indicated a free-hole lifetime of 80 usec for sample A and
200 Usec for sample B. Determination of power loss as a function of

applied d-c current I flowing through the p-n junction showed that I
the loss at I a 15 pamp relative to the loss at I - 0-was 2.8 db for
sample B and 0.5 db for sample A. The noise level was meaiured in
the following fashion: First, the noise introduced by the signal
detectors was calibrated by aklystron- modulator modulated by a
25-cps sine wave. Next, the.kl'ystron- was replaced with the semicon-
ductor modulator (sample B) and the noise level again measured. The
negligible difference (4 10%) in readings.of the noise spectral
density indicates that the noise level of the injection modulators
is below 5 x 10-164~k_ps. Orig6 art. has: 5 figures. JBD]
