ABSTRACT: The author conducted his investigations in the Manych
and Don forest preserves. He points out that water
requirements are smaller in all forest plantings when
the ground contains fewer small roots, but that the
moisture which the individual trees store up increases

ABSTRACT t Discussion of the method of determining the
time of watering of growing vegetable crops according to
the needs of the plafits, which has been developed by H. F.
Lobov (191+9, 1954), and is based on refTactometric deter-
mination of the content of solids in a drop of the juice
taken from a leif ofthe plant, It Is pointed out that
the suggested interval of timbetween removal of the leaf
and refractometric determir@atlon (15-20 minutes) is not
necessary, since leaves-iremoved from the plant and placed
in a test tube sealed with a rubber-stopper, show no
change In the concentration of solids In the expressed
for 3-1+ hours. Moreover, this '
juice$ method'is not exact,

ferior to that obtained with a silk ligature. The ULAV-5 Htitcher ensures a rapid
and precise ligation of the cystic duct and permits simultaneous ligation of the duct
and the cystic artery. When the stitcher is used in the pregence of acute inflam-
mation accompanied by oedema, of the cystic duct it is Imperative to place a drain
or a gauze strip against the duct stump.

immunization with plague vaccine and to check and specify previously ob-

provoked no distinct reaction but caused characteristic changes in the peri-
phoral blood. (2) This method, tested under practical conditions on 543
persons, is very simple and allows the population to be mans-immiunized -
against plague within a short time. There is 1 table.
