ABSTRACT: The problem of resolving two siguals is presented as a problem of
detecting the weake r 9*ignal with the other signal plus receiver internal noise as a
background. Thus, by measuring the combined signal-white -noise. mixture, the
(radar) receiver to to decide whether a single useful signal (characterized by its
delay and doppler shift) or two useful signals exist. The optimal decision in based
on composing two likelihood ratios and comparing them with the available

TITLE: Some.dynamic characteristics of the operator when tracking under Vookhod-2
spaceflight conditions
SOURCE: Kosmicheskiye issledovanlya, v. 4, no. 1, 1966, 137-143
TOPIC TAGS: man machine factor, psychophysiology/Voskhod 2
ABSTRACT: The study was designed to determine the effects of the entire complex of
physical and Rsychophysiological factors26f spaceflight on the Voskhod-2 crew. Four
situations were considered: 1) Training under normal conditions; 2) activity in a
spacecraft mockup; 3) activity.on the launch date; 4) activity during the actual
spaceflight. The reaction of Belyayev and Leonov to visual. tracking regimens of
various frequencies was monitored and the data vaskstatiBtically processed by a
computer. The mode of recording trackine actijLty~vis shown in Fig. 1 Using this
system, it was possible' to study the rolaowing operator characteristics: 1) the
amplitude-frequency character13tiC; 2) phase-frequency characteristic; 3) auto-
correlation function; 4) cross-correlation function; 5) transition function and
some othercharacteristics. The studies showed that the dynamic characteristics of

the iroakhod-2 crew did not undergo anydrastic changes under the influence of the
spaceflight. Even the 10 min.EVA activity did not alter operator characteristics.
There was also no significant change in operator reaction time. The data suggested
that the duration . of reliable work, which in the present study was riaintaine4 for
nearly 13 min, is not altered. However, the study did show that operator activity
concerned with Incoming signals (frdquency greater than 0.5 cps) was the most
susceptible to spaceflight factors. It is.felt that future, prolonged spaceflights
will reveal how the stability of the cosmonaut who is acting as a vital link in a
control system will change with respect to time, mission characteristics, and con-
ditions. Orig. sit. has: 6 figures and I table.' [CD]

TITLE: The influence of G-force and hypodynamia on the reaction of the operator
SOURCE: Sistema chelovek I avtomat (Man-automaton systems). Moscow, Izd-vo Nauka,
1965, 241-244
TOPIC TAGS: biologic gravity effect, hypodynamia, human physiology
A13STRACT: Of special interest In the investigation of semiautomatic control systems is the
question of the nature of the influence of such factors as G4orce, weightlessness, hypodynamis
(restricted movements), etc., on the reaction of the operator. The authors performed an
investigation in which the input device of the man-operator was the visual analyzer, and the
output device the motion of the hand (finger). The visual analyzer is a highly perfected organ
and is characterized by a high resolution factor and relatively high reliability. For an oper-
ator under nor7nal conditions, the mathematic expectancy of the delay time in the recognition
of light signals is 0. 20 sec; furthermore, as established by I. Ye. Tsibulevskiy (Zapazdyvaniye
operatora pri obrabotke zritel Inykh signalov. - AiT, 1962, 33, no. 11), delay depends on the
age of the operator (the correlation between delay and the operator's age is 0. 42). The pre-
sent article is devoted to the study of the Influence of G-force and hypodymamia on the reaction

of the operator while the operator to In the process of recognizing singlo, random visuai
signals. On the basis of data analysis, the authors conclude that when the operator
is subjected to G-force his reaction time to a light signal Increases. An analytical form of the
relationship, which ttikes Into account the relative location of the light Indicator on the signal
panel, may be approximately described by the empirical formula
v, 0,21 (1 + P) + (0,0 1 +0,5 P) n,
where P is the coefficient of the relative location of the light indicators on the signal panel,
and n is the G-force. The influence of hypodynamia (for a specific group) is also manifested Ir
an increased reaction time. Orig. art. has: 2 formulas, 1 table, and 3 figures. (08)

Abstract Stability of emulsions of hexachloro-cyclohexane (KEI) is
affected by substances contained in the water. Chlorides
strongly decreise the stability of EH; when the water
has a hardness of 20-22" only the content of mineral salts
affects the stability of EH. After 74 days the effective-
ness of a 1% zH is of 42% of its initial effectiveness.
Persistence of aqueous EH and kerosene solution of hexacIL-
loro-cyclohexane is the same.
