Results of improving quality of medical servi.ce to population
Periodical Sav. zdrav., 1, 25-29, Jan-Feb 1955
Abstract
Institution:
FD - 1924
The merger of hospitals with outpatient clinics, effected in 1950, and
adherence to medical district principle, produced a streamlined system
of health service for the population of the city of Simferopol' and
provided an opportunity for medical district physif~ians to improve their
qualifications. It was foundhowever, that the work load of physicians
assigned to outpatient clinics and visitation work in the homes of patients
was much greater then the work load of physicians on duty in hospitals.
A new work schedule was drawn u-j whereby a few physicians were detached
from duty in hospitals and assigned to outpatient clinics. Conditions in
outpatient clinics were thereby alleviated and expansion of preventive
measures was made possible.

TOPIC TAGS: metal costing, ultrasound, soundwavo, vibiaiionp degassing
ABSTRACT: The authors summarize the various applications of sound and ultrasound
~-n metal casting, calling attention to the indications-and advantages/di3advan-
tages of each method. The principal use of ultrasound is to obtain a finer crya-
talline structure, while the main effect of using sound is to cause very tho-
rough stixring of the entire mass of liquid metal, resulting in degassing and
more amorobous growth. Application of ultrasound may involve either irradiation
of cast parts of irradiation of the liquid metal before casting. The use of sound
in casting is simpler and more widely applicable than that of ultrasound, espe-
cially 14 the form of an 50-cyc2s electrodynamic vibrdtok which is resistant,
easy to maintain and adjustable for a wide range of powers. The officient de-
gassing, visible to the naked eyeg, does nork lengthen the:ca3ting period as it

can'be performedt while remoting oxidation products from the surface of the
liquid,, by simply resting ths.'pot an the vibrator. Such an installation reduced
the amount of rejects by 47 percent in the manufacturing of pistons made of
the alloy AlCu4MgN12J the gas content of the alloy decreased from 11.5 to 2.5
percent, traction resictance increased by an average of 12 percent, density of
"the metal increased, and hardness increased an average of 12 percent The
I use of sound was also tested on 5 ingots of liquid st4elj, each 700 = high
vibrated for about 15 minutes with a 50-cyclej, 250 v vibrator. Because of"the
i favorable results, a 5-kw,, 0 oyalwpor second device-capable of processing-

TEXT: A series of physical and photographic problems are considered, re-
lated to the improvement of the detail sharpness of an Image when photographing
fainted texts. Whatever the origin of the secondary radiation (reflection of in-
cident light or excitation by self-luminescence) used for the photograph, two
principles of restoring the text are possible - increasing the contrast in the
photographic Image and producing optical conditions for increasing the contrast
in the object itself. The first principle leads to carrying out all the stages of
obtaining a final image with a reproduction coefficient higher than unity. Here a

few variants can be realized, among which the multiple reprinting, the superimposi-
tion of a number of identical Images etc. However, the possibilities then are
limited by such factors as the reduction of the photographic width (at an increase
of the contrast of the photolayers), the iAorease of the graininess (in reprinting
deterioration of the resolution (when superimposing the images). The second prin-
ciple leads to photographing within a narrow spectral zone where the distinction
of the details of the object (and conseque.ritly also the contrast thereof) are
maximum; a further reproduction improvement then necessitates to choose an expo-
sure for which the optical densities of the details, subject to distinction, cor-
respond to the straight-line portion of tho characteristic ourvo.

TITLEt Inversion of the Thermoelectromotive Force in the Region of
Welded Metal Contacts_(~
PERIODICALs Fizika tverdogo tela,'1960, Vol. 2, No. 2, pp. 275-276
TEXTt A previous paper has shown (Ref. 1) that in welded contacts of
certain pairs of metals nonlinear current-voltage characteristics can be
observed, which may be symmetrical or anti symmetrical. Also the resistance
of the contacts proved to be much higher (by 3-8 orders of magnitude)
than the one calculated theoretically. In the present paper, the author
reports on investigations of the formation of symmetrical (non-rectified)
and asymmetrical (rectified) characteristics. Since it may be assumed
that asymmetrical characteristics are connected with the formation of
electron-hole junction 1~n the region of welded contacts, the authors try
to explain their existence by the distribution of thermoelectromotive
forces in the transition layer and by their sign. Pure metals were used.
They were heated either with high-frequency current or by passing current

Detection of the Formation of Chemical Compounds S/181/60/002/02/15/033
in Binary Alloys by the Method of Contact Welding B006/BO67
In the case To --# Mg, for example, the characteristic is strongly
asymmetrical, and in the came To 4- Mg it is nonlinear but symmetrical.
Analogous observations-were made for Sb-Mg. Others are less dependent
on the current direction. The results of measurement of the differential
zero resistances of the welding contacts of various metal pairs are
tabulated. The resistance R a 9/2d, where 9 - reaiativity and d - con-
tact diameter. The data show that the resistance measured in the contact
is 3-6 orders of magnitude higher than it would be if no chemical
compounds were formed by the components. When using the same method for
metals incapable of forming chemical compounds, the-resistance values
are close to the theoretical ones. When the welding contact shows marked
resistance it may be assumed that the components have formed a compound;
this method is well suited for a quick detection of chemical compounds
in alloys. In conclusion, the author thanks Profes3or S. G. Kalashnikov
for his interest in the paper and for discussions. There are I figure,

TITLE: Demonstration of a Chain Reaction on a Model
PERIODICAL: Uspekhi fizicheskikh nauk, 1960, Vol 70, Nr 2, PP 377-379 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The present article describes a model device of simple
construction for the demonstration of chain reactions, which
is based upon the principle of moving multicolored light signals.L
The electric wiring diagram is shown in figure 1, the arrange-
ment of the lamps (a three-step idealized cascade) in three
colors - nuclei, fragments, and neutrons - is shown in figure 2.
The principle is already well-known fron popular science ex-
positions. There are 2 figures.

TITLE: An Experiment During a Lecture for the Determination of the
Specific Heat of a Gas at Constant Pressure
PERIODICAL: Tispekhi fizicheskikh naukp 1960t Vol 70r Nr 2, PP 379-380 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: A schematically represented device for the purpose of determin-
ing the specific heat of a gas, which is shown in a figure,
is described. The a p -determination is carried out according
to the formula cp M Q/Ght, where G denotes the gas quantity,
Q, the quantity of heat supplied, and At, the temperature in-
crease of the gas. A c p- determination by means of the device
described takes 7 to 10 minutes. There is I figure.
