ABSTRACT: The purpose of the article is the derivation of a general
mathematical formalism for the analysis of linear systems with vari-,
able parameters in response to nonstationary signals. A generalized
shift operation corresponding to a second-order differential equa-
tion is introduced and Its properties described. Expansions in

ABSTRACT: The Possibility of increasing the transmission rate of discrete informa-
tion through a limited band pass channel is investigated, by trying out various kinds
of codes under two performance criteria. Biorthogonal codes with constant and vari-
able rates were considered. The performance criteria were - (1) the capacity (C) of
a discrete channel (according to a basic theorem of Shannon)

where W(T) is the average energy of an input sequence of duration 7, and L is the ef-
fective band pass. Of all the codes considered, the code with the highest transmission
rate is a constant-rate, two-parameter code with nonuniform complementary time posi-
tions and uniform amplitude quantization. The phase-pulse modulated code was found to
have the highest effectiveness of transmission of information, increasing with the in-
crease of the number of signals N. Orig. art. has: 38 formulas, 4 figures, 2 tables.

TITLE; Analysis of the operation of a transistor oscillator with "low"
limitation
PERIODICAL: Telecomunica~ii, no. 2, 1962, 51-60
TEXT: The article presented at the scientific session of the Institutul
politehnic (Polytechnic Institute) in Bucharest in December 1960, contains a
theoretical and experimental study on a transistorized oscillator, operating
under the following conditions: (1) the transistor is assembled in connection with
the common base; (2) the circuit is tuned on the collector and the magnetic.
reaction on the emitter; (3) the collector and the enutter are fed by a constant
voltage source; (4) the operation frequency is sufficiently low; and, (5) the
limitation of the oscillation amplitude is obtained by attaining the cut-off
condition of the transistor, this limitation being called I'low"limitation. The
author examines the oscillator expressed by an equation of the 3rd order and by
an equation of the 2nd order. The equation of the 3rd order is used for deter-
mining the attenuation conditions and the amplitudes of the oscillations. In

certain conditions, the equation of the 3rd order miy be reduced to an equation
of the 2nd order. The author proves theoretically and by experiments how much
the attenuation conditions of the oscillations may deviate from case to case, and
examines the conditions under which a "low" limitation of the oscillations might
become possible. He also gives a method for predetermining the oscillation ampli-
tude. The possibility of a "low" limitation depends on the selection of the
static operation point. For this, the emitter current should berclatively weak
and the load impedance on the collector should have a relatively low value. The
type of limitation was established by oscillographing the shape of the collector
current and measuring the alternating collector voltage. The experimental veri-
fication of the theoretical calculations was accomplished by anoscillator with a
T11.3 A transistor, on a frequency of 440 cps. However, a thorough verification
of the experimentally measured amplitude with the calculated amplitude ;-~as only
possible, when the circuit and voltage elements had been determined with great
accuracy. There arc 12 figures and I table.

TITM Theoretical considerations on amplifiors compensated with
negative capacitance
PERIODICAM Telecomunicatii, no. 3: 1962, 107-116
TEXTs The article presents the theory of an amplifier compensated
with negative capacitance, dealing in particular with an AN complex stage,
consisting of a usual amplifier stage A, to the output of which a stage N
has been connected. The compensation possibilities and the stability of
the A stage in the presence of the N section areexamined. Good operating'
conditions of the compensated stage were found to be in the vicinity,of the
maximally-flat condition. This amplifier was compared with an amplifier
compensated with inductance to dete=ine when the former was more advan-
tageous. This analysis was carried out with an amplifier with n AN stages,
each stage operating in maximally-flat conditions. A method of calculating

an amplifier with identical n stages, when the gain-band product of the
electronic tube is known, is given. Conclusions: A negative capacitance
compensation is more advantageous than an inductance compensation in very
wide-band and high-amplification amplifiers. An AN cell was experimentally'
studied and the 'results compared with the theoretical conclusions. An am-
plifier with n AN cells was not studied experimentally, but its application
possibilities were theoretically investigated.
