The disease was observed in 265 cases. Special
significance to attributed to hyper-
oestrogenaernia and to the consequent ionic
hypocalcaernia. Three major syndromes
(neu ro- endocrine, local genito-ovarian and
hepato-billary) are described and
several clinical forms are differentiated. The treatment
is complex; its aim must
be the correction of the endocrine disorders and of the
hepato-biliury affections
(bipolar therapy). Special streets is laid on the high
incidence of this disease
relative to the other hepato-cholecystopathies, and on
the possibilities of pre-
vention. Nicolnesco - Bucharest (V1. 3)

Renal function was investigated in these cases,
by clinical and radiological examin-
ation and laboratory tests: Addis-Hamburger
count, curve of urine excretion,
serum levels of urea and uric acid, Volhard
test, creatinine and urea clearance.
Signs of renal disease were found in 64% of
these cases. The common influenzal
nephropathy is an acute interstitial nephritis
with benign course. lasting 7-14 days.
In certain cases, glomerular and tubular lesions
were found. Three anatomico-
clinical forms of Influenzal nephropathy are
distinguished: the common form; exa-
cerbation of a pre-existing chronic nephropathy,
and acute diffuse glomerular
nephritis, in which the virus plays its part
independently of the rhino -pharyngeal
focal reactivation. Nicolaesco Bucharest (L, 6)

The eoainograrn was studied daily for from 17-40
(lays in 22 patients with digestive
hAemorrhages (18 ulcers. 3 cases of cirrhosis, I of
gaaLritis). It was found that
the curve of the peripheral eosinophils was
characterized by cosinDpenia in the tat
week after the haemorrhage, followed by a period of
hype reosinophilia which lasts
another week. approximately. Coexistent with the
eosinopenia there was hyper-
glycaemia with hype rcholeste rolaemia. a finding
which inspired the hypothesis
that there Is hyperfunction of the adrenal cortex as
the result of the demands made
upon the gland by the organism on the occasion of
the severe haemorrhages; the
hype reosinoph ilia would then express the
exhaustion of the adrenal at the end of
a period of excessive functioning. Nicolaesco -

A systematic study was made of the eosinograrn
of 28 patients given prolonged
ACTH treatment, and the occurrence of a
persistent cosinophilia was observed in
12 of them. After elimination, by the
intradermal test and administration of corti-
sone, of the possibilities of sensitizitton to
ACTII and underdosage. the conclusion
was drawn that in the majority of the cases,
the easinophilin which is seen In the
,ourao of prolonged ACTH treatment represents
the manifestation of the exhaustion
of the adrenal cortex after the excessive
requirements made on it.

MED. INTERNA (Bucureqti) 1958, 16TTU_M~_
Reference is made to a number of cases in which
neoplasta showed aggravation
after corticotherapy, and the question is raised
whether ACTH and cortisone exert
a harmful action on cancer. Such an effect might
be explained by the decrease of
local and general defence mechanisms and by the
fact that the process of tumour
proliferation is strongly stimulated. A review
is presented of the many experi-
mental data supporting this hypothesis that can
be found in the literature.
