The above formulae are employed to determine the output
voltage of a differentiating circuit, an integrating
circuit
and a series RLC circuit, the input signal being a
sawtooth
waveforin; in the case of an RLC circuit the output is
taken
across either C, R or L . The response functions of
these
networks are shown in a table. The results of the table
can
be used to analyse various types of quadripole3 by
applying
the principle of similarity of the transfer functions.
In
thi!i method each quadripole can be described by the
transfer
function K(jw) , which is defined as the ratio of the
output
voltage or current to the input voltage or current. The
input

different
quadripole. This method is used to analyse a complex
circuit
representing the deflection system of a magnetically
defAected
television tube. The results given in the table are also

TITLE: Measuring the nonlinearity of sawtooth pulses

TEXT: The article describes methods for measuring the
nonlineari-
ty of sawtooth voltages and currents and lists in detail the ad-
vantages of sawtooth-linearity measuring based on derivation of
the
measured sawtooth pulse. Nonlinea.-ities of sawtooth waves can
be
measured (1) by comparative methods, and (2) by methods based on
lerivation of the sawtooth pulse. While comparative methods are
rather complicated and time consuming, the derivation method is
much simpler and faster, and also permits determination of
short-
lasting changes in the steepness of sawtooth waves. In
derivation,
the nonlinearity of the sawtooth wave is defined as the ratio of
differences between maximum and minimum values of sawtooth-pulse
time changes to the maximum value of its time change, i.e.:

The derivation of voltage pulses can easily be realized by a
simple
RC derivation circuit with a sufficiently small time constant.
The
sawtooth waves are fed to the input of the derivation circuit,
and
the derived pulses can be observed on an oscilloscope
connected to
its output. This arrangement is capable of measuring
nonlinearities
greater than 3%. For more precise measurements, the
insufficiently
small time constant of the derivation circuit must be reduced
by a
suitable compensation circuit, e.g. a second derivation circuit
(R2 C2), or a negative feedback. Sawtooth pulses of current
must
be measured indirectly by the volta e originating on a resistor
connected in series to sweep coils fthose of a TESLA 4001 A TV

receiver were used). The nonlinearity of the voltage pulses is
then
measured by the above-describedmethod. Oscillograms presented in
this paper were made with a KrizikD 536 oscilloscope with an
adap-
ter for optical display simming and a transparent grid produced
by
an opaque mirror. In conclusion, the author again stresses that
the
derivation method to measure nonlinearities of sawtooth waves is
simple and fast and allows the nonlinearity of sawtooth
generators
by oscilloscopic observation to be adjusted. There are 23

The case described to that of a 3-year-old boy, who developed
normally after
birth. When he was P months old, lie began to exhibit a gradual
weakening in
muscular strength. Not long afterwards, muscular atrophy was
observed, beginning
in the trunk, the shoulder girdle and the pelvis. The case was
diagnosed as
Werdnig- Hoffman's disease with the following deviations from the
typical picture:
(1) the absence of similar cases in the family-, (2) the presence of
generalized
muscular flaccidity: and (3) the lack of progression in the final
phase. After 4
months. the child died of bronchopneurnonia. The creatine.
phosphozo-ca)cium and
Ftmino-acid balancea were examined in particular. A considerable
increase in the
excretion of creatinine and especially of creatine in the urine and a
constant,
raised phosphatase acid level in the blood were observed. Similar
changes are seen
in the paralytic forms of poliomyelitis. Asa result of treatment with
tocopherol, vit B,
andglucocol. the ratio of creatine to creatinine in the urine was
raised. Theserum
calcium was normal. The excretion of amino-acids by the kidneys was
shown to be
normal by bi-dimensional paper chromatography. A biopsy was made of
the muscle&
and later compared with the postmortem examination. The piccure of
the muscles
was similar to that described in We rdni g- Hoffman's and Oppenheim's
diseases,
consisting in atrophy of some muscle fibres, beside which normal or
even hyper-
trophied fibres were met with. although in negligible quantities.
Atrophy and
degeneration of the motor cells of the spine and subcortical nuclei
were shown.

neutrons and protons with nuclei shows that the effect

direct interaction gives a noticeable contribution to
the
cross section of the reaction. This manifests itself in

with energies greater than 14 Mev on nuclei at the
start and
middle of the periodic system. With this., the
probability of
emission of an particle, and also the angular and
energy dis-

It iserroneous to consider the syndiome of intestinal
infarction to be %-cry uncommon
and the clinical diagnosis practically impossible. In
F) cases out of 7 seen by the
author in receni years the clinical diagnosis of
intestinal infarction was confirimed.
The diagnosis depended upon (1) predisposing causes
(endocarditis, disposition to
embolism or thrombosis, operations in the abdomen
etc.), (2) the picture of acute
abdomen with distension but with-)ut marked muscular
guarding, (3) the picture of
shock; haemorrhage from the gast ro-intestinal tract
is not necessarily observed. As
the mortality in non-operated ca--.!s reaches 95% one
must seek the correct diag-
