.,ABSTRACT: Two glasses (34.4 and 23.4,mol,l't of Li2O) and one
lithia-aluminosilica glass containing asimall admixture cf potassium
oxide and
silver and cerium dioxide catalyzers have been investigated. Polished
glass
samples (20 x 25 x 3 mm) were crystallized under single or repeated
heating to
a
400-900r. ovex P riode of 4 to 24 hre. The structure was investigated
by stand-,

.ABSTRACT: GeneralIrinciples were outlined for the classification
of all possible
pr
,combinations of ellments on the basis of the Periodic Table of the
Elements and
,similarity of the rystal: structure of compounds. The minerals and
synthetic
compounds were sublc~ividea into orders, families,, and genera
analogous to biological
,categories. The proposed classification included the phaseii of
variable composition
(continuous solid 'Solutions, daltonides, and berthollides). Physic

Chemical Structure
Determination of the structure and structural formulas of
o:-ganic compounds based on
cryaLallo-chemical data. Izv. AN 533-R. Otd. khim. nauk No.. 1,
1953.
Demonstrates that the employment of now ev-ptl data..darived
from
the measurement of interatomic distances in hold of org coapda,
presents the pos-
sibility of characterizing and compd by means of single an6l,
unique structurel famula.
Ascertained that the reciprocal effect of atoms can
substartially change the intr-
atomic distances in mole; consequentlyp in detg the structrxal
formula, this effeect
has to be taken into account. Further shows that, to represent
structural formulas
which are in agreement with the symmetry of mols in aromatic
compda (with condensed
benzene nuclei), the existenee not only of simple and double
bonds but particularly
of intermediate or sesqui-bonds mist be considered. 258r2

Abstract Describe the crystallography of the simple sulphides
of sonovalent
elements (and their closest analogs); aLso that of the
structure of
the sulphides of alkali metals. Note t~%e polymorphism of the
sul-
phides of monovalent copper and silver. Depict the crystalline
structures of cubic modifications of copper and silver sulphides
(and their analogs). Discuss the crystalline structure of
noncubic
minerals and nonminerals (compounds of tionovalent metals with
sulfur,
selenium and tellurium). Compute the solid solutions of the
sulfides
of monovalent copper, silver, gold and iballium (also the
selenides).
Thank N. L. Katsenelenbaum for the lattice constants.

the molecUlar refraction as calculated by the Lorentz and Lorenz
