ABSTRACT: A report on a study of the-decontaminating capacity of
raw gypsum,
commercial superphosphate and some Rumanian bentonites. The tests
also considered
the quantity of decontaminating agentp various proportions in
mixtures of the
substances, the presence of salts often found in surface waters,
and the pH.
Best results were obtained with raw gypsump especially for
fluoridated water;
bentonites were found to be most effective as mixtures of two
types. Orig. art*

Title Magnetic Manometer for Large Pange of Pressures
Orig Pub Studii si cercetari fiz., 1957, 7j, No 1~ 85-89
Abstract Description of a magnetic manometer., whose
operatina princi-
ple is analogous to the Penning manometer, but having
several
advantages over the latter,, namely an increased
sensitivity
(thanks to a considerable increase in the mean free path of
the electrons)) a larger range of measured pressures (lo-4
to 10-8 m mercury). The higher sensitivit - mmeter
makes it possible to use it as a leak detector in vacuum
apparatus&
The manometer is a d4ode having electrodes of special con-
struction. The anode is a filament located along the axis
of a cylindrical cathode. The space between the two is sub-
divided into several sections by means of disks (0.1 mm
thick)

TITLE:
Reducing the Contamination

'PERIODICAL:
Energetik, 1959, Nr 11, pp 16-17 (USSR)
ABSTRACT:
The author
explains how air enters the interior of the
hydrogen-cooled
TV-50-2 turbogenerator of the "Elektro-
sila" plant. Since the
generators of this type work
with an excessof hydrogen pressure,
air cannot enter
the stator through leaks. It was found that the
oil fed
to the gaskets is the only source of the air contamina-
tion. The oil coming from bearing Nr 4 carries a consi-
derable
amount of air and is fed to the vacuum cleaning
tank. However,
not all of the air is removed in the va-
cuum tank. The oil then
enters the heated gaskets and
the remaining air will escape. To
eliminate the air con-
tent of the oil, the author suggests
feeding the vacuum
tank from the main oil tank of the
turbogenerator in-

pipeline connection was blocked by a valve. The oil
from bearing Nr 4 will enter in this case the main oil
tank before going to the vacuum tank. The air contami-
nation of the hydrogen in the turbogenerator was re-
duced considerably. Previously, purging of the hydro-
gen had to be performed within four or five days. where-
by about 20-30 cu. m. of hydrogen were consumed. Tl~ere

ABSTRACT: 1) A theory of the dipole-moments of the
polymer-molecules
was proposed which connects the mean square of the dipole-mo-
ment of the polymeric chain with its chemical structure, with
the stereoisomerism and with the retarding of inner rotation.

theory which takes only account of the interaction between the
nearest chain-series, also a second approximation was obtained
which takes account also of more far distanced series. 2) It
was shown that the dipol-moment can largely depend on the
stereoisomerism of the chain: with chains of the type (-CH
2-CR-)n
and especially (-CHR-) n the dipole-moment is substantially
smaller with the dl- than with the dd- position of the polar
groups (under equal conditions of inner rotation in the chain).
It was also shown that in chains of the type (-CH2-CHR-)n with
closely connected dipoles tKb aipole--mo.-.ient depends on the

repel more intensely. When an inner rotation takes place
in polar pendants, then the dipole moment does not depend
on the structure in the first approximation. 3) A comparison
of the theory with the experimentally found values according
to poly-p-halogen styrenes and polychlorovinyl show that
in the chains of these polymers the phenyl series or the
chlorine atoms repel mutually more intensely than the
hydrogen
stoma. The degree of retardation of rotation in these poly-
mers which was determined according to dipole moments in
accordance with experimentally obtained data corresponds
approximately to the values determined from the size of the
molecules and from the photoelastic moment. . I

ABSTRACTs It is shown here that in the case of tetrahedral valence-
angles the polyisobutylene-molecules on the average are
optically isotropic, independent of the nature of internal
rotation. In a rotary-isomeric approximation the author
here performs the calculation of the average optical anison
tropy of the polyisobutylene molecules in the case of a
complete correlation of the internal rotations within the
monomer and of the independent internal rotations of the

culated on the basis of the hypothesis of Fox, Good, and Fordham
which states that
the Probability of iso- and syndiotactic addition of the monomeric
unit to the end
of a growing chain is determined by the free energies of the
resultant chain on
corresponding addition of the last monomeric unit. The
calculations were performed

called
Stenasellus asiaticus nov. sp. Its habitat
