or on the emitter-repeaters; the diode decoders control the impulse gates. The

pulse-producxng network performs a variety o~ functions, ampli[icatio~of ca ce
pulse, amplification of pulses transmitted by cable, del~y lines, register (se~der)
gates, and other amplifiers. The shaping and gating oi pulse~ was invcstigaL~'d in
detail in the course of the development.: Gating investigated was by diode, trans-
former, diode-transformer wi~ amplifying triodes, various types o~ triode ~es.
Concurrently with this wOrk, several versions o~ the utilization of elements fn the
logical networks of computing machines, were e~mined. Fallowing these prelimin-
ary steps, it xvas concluded ~at only ~,o t~es of pulse-type elements were suitable
for utilization in t~s system: The trigger-starting gate and the shaper gate. The
two di~ler characteristica~y in ~at the' starter gate is a pulse network which
operates on a potential ne~Ork, whereas the. shaper gate is a pulse network Which

operates on a pulse network. The paper examines only the latter two networks in
detail. Each gate has a pulse input- and, a potential input that is connected with a de-
coder. The starter gate is described /~ detail, with a schematic diagram of
starter gates operating on'a' trigger. Experimental characteristics of starter gates
are shown. A description of a shaper gate and a shaper amplifier is supplemented
with schematic circuit diagrams of.eac.h and analytical expressions describing their
operation. Experimentally determined voltage oscillograms at the output o� the
shaper gate are .~hown. A circuit diagram is shown with 2 emitter-repeaters with
joint outputs. Two groups of networks.were exhaustively tested: A trigger group
(re/. the author's paper on pp. 3-18 of the present sbornik, Abstract
002/001/01!) and the shaper-gate group. The tests were performed both with the
nominal network parameters and with t,he values of the parameters that deviated in
the sense of deterioration. The stability regions and the experimental load char-
acteristics of the shaper gates are shown. There are 10 figures and the 1 above-
cited Russian-language Soviet reference.

I It is found that the epparent rarity of the variety cf dragon fly
(Altaigonphus heterastylus) which inhabits Altai in the Soviet Union is
explained by its h~bit of flying only in the sunlight over the ripples
of streams where it blends with its background, making it hard to see
and giving the impression of its nonexistence.

The distribution and shapes of areas inhabited by 4~6 species
of grasshoppers belonging to the Paleoarctic (P) were studied
in order to determine the basic principles of the geographic
distribution of grasshoppers in the paleoacctic regions. Five
latidudinal belts of P, each with the following number of
species, were distinguiehod: l) the arctic - to the north
of the polar circle, with 15 species; 2) the subarctic - be-
tween the polar circle and 60 deg of northern latitude -

between 40 and 50o of northern latitude, 164 species; 5)
subtropical - between 40 dog of northern latitude and the
tropic~ i~%abited by 387 species. Thus, the number of trans-
paleoarctic species decreased and the nunber of locally
found species increased. F~ther, three longitudinal sectors
of P were distinguished: l) European-African--to 40 deg of
eastern longitude, ~ith 132 species; 2) West Asian--from 40
to 90 deg of easterh longitude, %rIth ll3 species; 3) East-
Asian--from 90 deg of eastern longitude, with 349 species.
For the first sector only 76 species were mom or less ch~a-acter-
istic~ 34 species were end~nic (25~) and there was one genus
(Oxyg~stra). The fauna of the second sector w~s even poorer;
it had less endemic species: 17 species (12~) and one genus
(Attaigomphus). The fauna of the third sector was the richest;
it had nzmy endemic species (289; 8~.5~) and a number of
genus. Representative species were found mostly in the south-
ern half of the Paleoarctic. Twelve authentic cases of

The author investigated the structure, mechanical properties, and
chemical composition of the metal of various parts of Z86 old
steam boilers for the purpose of developing a general procedure
for investigating in-service steam boilers, it is recommended
that the metallographic investigation of the structure and tests for
hardness and ak be performed by the N. N. Davidenkov method.
The author proposes a questionnaire which includes all possible
structural elements and defects of boiler steel for the characteri-
zation of its macro- and microstructure. The structural elements

standard scales. In order to evaluate the quality of the metallic structure of
boiler steel, the author recommends four indexes supplemented by not less than

ABSTRACT: A method for corre,~_ting internal involute spline broaches
i�, presented after some propositions of involute trigo-
nometry. The co-..ordinates of the involute profile points
