Abstract: lbcperimonts in treating 22 patients with
nialarmide are
Te_s_(,=red. In8 patients there was an improvement, in 14

anxiety,
the drus had no efVect. No side ef-.'ectn ware observed,
but the
patients had to receive hypnotics at ni-ht to make thein
sleep.
No EM changes by the drug were observod. The use of

TEXTi Methods of quality control by ultrasonic vibrations of
refractory'',
and ceramic goods are described# These.vibrations are
nondestructive.
The principles of the method and the factors w.hich influence
the rate at~
which ultrasonics are propagated within the goods, Viz. density,
porosity,
granulometric composition of the substance, quality of the
material stc.i
are described. An installation for making pea, auremente is
described anC
.some practical examples are given. By applying this method a
quick and
reliable quality test of refractory materials can be carried out
not only
on selected samples but on complete batches of goods#

Prague, Ceskoslovenslca Fysiologie, Vol 15, No 20 Feb 660 p 106
Abstract: From mammal cells L, HeLa and Detroit 6 lines with high
resistance to cold (40C) were obtained; their propar-ation at
300-360C was very fast. All 3 lines decomposed glue''ose faster
thnn controls; the levels of pyruvic and lactic acids were also
lower than in controls. The calls used up more glucose without
releasing nore intermediate products; the experinental cells
released more acid tn the nedium than control cells. It is possible
that the strains resistant to cold stimulate cell oxidation and
behave during adaptation to cold as complete animals. I Piguro,

Abstract: Subcutaneous fibroblasts from mice were used to prepare
a cu ure exposed repeatedly to cold. This results in renlica-
tion without division of the cytoplasm, so-called andoreduplica-
tion, which was nanifested after it was removed from the cold,
durin- the first mitosis by the existence of diplochromosames
in cells. Endoreduplications were known previously to be due
only to radiation effects. 4 Figures, 6 Western, 1 Czech

ABSTRACT: The problem of mass balance of the Antarctica ice cover
is investigated by
con6entrating on the mass changes of the central part ice cap.
Problem difficulties
are due to abseAce of direct information, such as is available for
the outer fringe
zone, where the 20th century warming trend has caused observable
ice retreats . The
authoks,9ffer a method based upon three hydrodynamic equations of
the ice flow, repre.
senting continuity and the two boundary conditions of mass
transfer thru the upper am
lower surfaces of the superglacier. A single integral equAtion is
then derived, rela-
tift the velocities of the external and internal mass exchange
with the velocity of
mass change at a given point. It is noted that in the environment
of Central Antarcti.
ca most of the equation's memebers can be neglected. The remaining

(with uW and vW - ice velocities along the X and Y axes at
depth z); and their
time derivatives, can be measured at the surface and
extrapolated to depth on the ba-
sis of shallow borings. On the basis of the analysis and
measurements made previously,.
a work plan has been formulated. Its main features were.
precise radar range'survey-
ing of permanent 8 meter high markers defining pentagon nets at
suitable stations;
astro-orientation; 811 dia. firn samplings at low depths; and
electric soundings for
ice density. The expedition was conducted with the
participation of a group of Fren
scientists, including one of the present authors (Prof. A.
Bauer). A description of
the expedition's organization, a diary of operations and tables
of some measurements
related to the survey marker nets are given. The precision of
distance measurement by
Y1
special ratkar equipment was found to be good, with errors less
than one part in a mil,
lion. Measurement operations were found to be unimpeded by low
blizzards, except for a
single 12 hour interruption of radar signal passage. The
results obtained and the I
established marker system should permit a satisfactory
repetition of measurements in
two years, as planned. 7be electrometric ice density
determination method wasfound to
be unsuitable in its present form. Orig. art. has 1 figure, 7
formulas and 5 tables.

ABSTRACT: To add the antifading feature to a vertical-mast medium
-frequency
antenna, it is recommended that a coiled piece of wire be
connected to the antenna
open end, thus Increasing its electric length by very economical
means. A numerical
example shows that an antenna's ( IL w 300 m) electric length of
27. 5 m can easily be
brought to 41. 5 m, while both its radiation resistance and
efficiency materially
increase. The loading-cdil height Is only 1/7 to 1/5 that of an
additions.1 steel
structure which would be required in order to obtain the same
results. Orig. art.

PERIODICAL: Strojirenskh vSroba, v. 9, no. 3. 1961, 115 - 119
TEXT: This article is based on dissertations of graduates of the
Economics-
Engineering Department of the CWT Institute of Technology in
Prague, and intends
to inform workers of the machine-building industry on some
experiences gained at
the introduct-_'on of group technology according to S. P.
Mitrofanov. This group
technology simplifies the machining of parts with similar
dimensions and was in-
troduced on lathes of the "CZNM" National Enterprise in Prague
(producer of small
series of ultra-heavy diesel engines) and the "MEOPTA" National
Enterprise in
Prague (prodbeer of small series of microscopic and geodetic
instruments and ba-
lances). The 'ICZNM" Enterprise uses the group technology for
machining of a total
of 101 types of parts, distinguished into 6 groups: (1) flanges -
28 types of in-
dividual parts; (2) bevel gears - 6 types of parts; (3) cams and
hubs - 22 types
of parts, (4) shafts - 16 types of parts; (5) ring flanges - 17
types of parts;
and (6) adapters - 12 types of parts. The unnecessary variety of
dimensions of

parts could be standardized and complex parts were designed for
which the group
technology was established. Such a group machining program is a
chart which con- V1
tains all single parts of the group and all operations to be
performed, but only
those dimensions, to which a certain part should be machined,
are plotted in per-
tinentt columns, other columns are left blank. Parts selected
at the "14SOPTA" En-
terprise for group machining can be divided into 2 groups: (1)
pinions - 10 types
of individual parts;. and (2) sleeves - 9 types of individual
parts. The pinions
(lst group) are made of TSN 11 108" standard rods with
diameters ranging from 5.5
- 9.0 mm, and are most economically machined on an I'S 28"
la;he with an "IKS V
copying attachment. The copying is performed in three runs with
a cutting speed
of 23.5 M/min. The sleeves (2nd group) are standardized to 3
dimensions for inter-
nal and external recesses (0-5, 1.0 and 1.5 mml. Cutting tools
were clamped either
in the headstock and the copying support or in a special turret
head, fastened in
the tailstock. The economic evaluation showed, that the 2 39
orking hours requir-
ed by the conventional machining method could be reduced io ?,M
working hours,
which means an overall saving of 40.5% and a 43.5% saving Of
original wages. The
copying attachment paid for itself within 7 months. In the
following, some expe-
riences are listed, which were gathered during introduction of
group machining on

turret lathes of the 2 above-Usted plants, the Blanick6
strojimy-zkvod Konstruk-
ta (Machline-Building Plant) in Prague and the TOS (Machine Tool
Plant) in Hosti-
v&f. The economical evaluation of the group technology, introduced
on automatical-
ly controlled lathes, resulted in a work-productivity increase of
17%. The total
savings, achieved in the production of cams (103 assorted parts)
amounted to
60,420 Czech Crowns. (Abstracter's note: period in which savings
were made is
not stated]. In addition to these savings, the described group
technology also
increases the quality level of products. In conclusion, the authors
state that
these are only the very first experiences, gathered with the S. P.
Mitrofanov
group technology, but the method will be further expanded and
developed for the
benefit of Czechoslovak machine-building industry. There are 10
figures.
