in a cylindrical discharge tube. In the case of dir,oot

TEXTz The decomposition of hydrogen peroxide on activattd
char-coal was studied by many authors tout their assumptions on
the mechanism of this process are in contradicti n. In the
present work the mechanism was studied using 019 introduced into
the zharcoal oxides (vith H202 of the natural isotope
composition)
or into the 11202 (with ordinary oxygen charcoal). The isotope
compositions of the charcoal oxides and of gav ous oxygen were
determined to evaluati~ the mechanism, The 019-containin~
charcoal
was prepared by grinding the commercial charcoal type (BAU),
de-,ashing with acid, -washing, drying and acti-vating in
C02 at 8000C for 6 hours and 1000*C for 3 hourst after this, the
material was treated with hydrogen at 10000C (which was then
pumped off at 600 to 650*C), cooled in oxygen-free nitrogen,
treated at room temporature with 018-enriched! gaseous oxygen

stored in heavy-oxygen water vapour,, The procedure for
preparing
and storing ordinary oxygen-charcoal was identical but ordinney
oxygen and water vapour were used. Special experiments were
carrJed out ifi which charcoal containing ordina,ry oxygen was
treated with heavy-oxygen water vapour whose flinal Isotope
