ABSTRAM Today the Soviet Union occupies a loading position in
mechanical engineering. From 1950 - 1955, 4,00 now types Of
machines and equipsent were developed, and in 1955 the product-
ion in the fields of sachinebuilding and metal working surpassed
the level of 1940 by 5 times, In 1960 it will have increased
by 80 compared with 1955. Automation of production processes
is stressed especially. About 220 autosistio and semi-automatic
production and assembly lines are to be Introduced in machine-
building alone. In the last year of the 5th FivooYear Plan,
170.2 billion kwh were generated in the Soviet Union. A
generator with a capacity of 300,000 kv was designed for the
Krasnoyarsk Hydro-Electric Power Planto the construction of
which will be started during the present Pive-Isar Plan.
Characteristic of this generator is the absenci of a shaft
whose functions will be performed by the bushi-4 of the rotor#
