SUBJECT Monthly Report Key West Bureau--June 1983
Bureau expansion project virtually completed during the
month. Project engineer visited the bureau on 23 STAT
June for his final inspection and adjustment of the new air con-
ditioning system. Bureau personnel have moved into the new areas
and have begun to use the new facilities including: the dining
room, expanded monitorial room, shower facilities and new office
for the chief. The firm handling the construction was a bit slow
but they took great pains to do a good job and to do it the way
we wanted it done. The project engineer was impressed with the
quality of the work..
A. Morii.torial/Editorial
our new editor/monitor, began STAT
duty on 6 June and shows promise of rapidly developing into a very
competent and reliable addition to the staff in Key West.
B. Technical
The equipment and patch panel layout in the new video
monitoring room, including large portions of the video and audio
signal circuitry, was adapted to changed working and technical con-
ditions with special consideration being given to make it accessible
to and usable by a handicapped operator. The new layout features
normal-through operation for all routinely used equipment and a
channel selector switch permitting simultaneous switching of video
and audio signals of the two Havana channels.
The bureau's staffin situation im roved a great deal
on 6 June when new editor/monitor began his tour STAT
of duty.
B. Building and Grounds
As mentioned above, the expansion project is virtually
complete. In addition, the old portion of the building was refur-
bished during the month, receiving a new paint job and new carpeting.

IV. VISITS
As-mentioned earlier, project engineer) (visited
the bureau on 23 June for his final inspection visit. The bureau,
and FBIS, owes him a debt of gratitude for his patience while work
ing with. inexperienced persons directing his project at the site
of operations.
Collins International engineers,
visited the bureau from 13 to 17 June to carry out the frequency
interference survey related to the installation of the bureau's
Internet terminal.

end of the month looking for housing for his upcoming (_1 August)
PCS as an editor/monitor in Key Wp-,t- We are looking forward to

Arriving in Key Wes on ri sit aboard the NCL Cruise
ship Skyward were both, with. FBI's in WashingtoiSTAT
They and another agency employee were given a brief tour of the new
facilities.
V. COMMUNITY' ACTIVITIES
The bureau ch.i.ef represented the bureau and FBIS at the
change of command carried out by the Naval Communications Unit
on June 30., 1983.
