(AS OF 1500 EST)
1., Both the Greek-led National Guard and the
Cypriot police are still on alerts According to
Cypriot newspapers, President Makarios has not yet
sent a reply to Greece and the Archbishop has said
he is "undaunted and firm." A student demonstra-
tion in Nicosia today in supptrt of Makarios went
off without inciaent.
Greek Ambassador Panayotakos,
a major source o irritation to Makarios, has left
Cyprus for Greece.

The Turks still insist that the
Czech arms be turned over to the UN forces on
Cyprus but concede that it will now be difficult

to force Makarios to give them up.
4. Student supporters of Makarios and Grivas
clashed in the' south coast port of Limassol today
in the first instance of violence. The two groups,
each several hundred strong, shouted slogans at
each other across the town square and scuffled.
Police broke up the crowd.
