SUBJECT o Valedictory
Today the Intelligence Advisory Committee activated the Committee on
Documentation, and, by this act, simultaneously dissolved its ad hoc Sub-
committee on Information Processing. Thus comes to a close an unbroken
record., just short of three years, of active work by AHIP and its working
groups.
The field. of information processing, which has been AHIP's major
concern, is an unglamorous one. In the past it has been at a dis-
advantw_;e in vying with other intelligence activities for the attention
of the IAC0 Having only recently been associated with AHIP, it is not
inappropriate for me to give my opinion that AHIP and its working groups
have done significant work. Moreover, it has been very timely work. Had
this not been so, the NSC and the IAC, at a time when consolidation of
directives and reduction of committees is the order of the day., would not
have activated a new committee whose charter finds its base in that of
AHIP.
As your chairman since September of last year, my thanks for the
contribution made by each go to the members of AHIP and to the par-
ticipants in the work of the numerous groups to which special tasks
were assigned. Your cooperation has always been readily given and for
this CIA is grateful.
STAT Ou.r secretary and I join in extending our best wishes
to our now past associates in AHIPo
