" (See item 5 below. ) Mr. Arneson advised the members regarding the present status of the State Department paper on the Middle East referred to in the third subparagraph of item 2 b. 3. Situation Review a. Watch Committee Report No. 398 b. Review of Sensitive Situations The Chairman referred to recent reports bearing on the situation in Saudi Arabia, and discussed in particular with the members the nature, and possible implications for the US, of new arrangements for the distribution of power within the Saudi Arabian Government. Mr. Sanger of the State Department also commented on these develop- ments. NSCID No. 1 After exchanging views the members approved an amended version of paragraph 17 of the new NSCID No. 1, for submission to the NSC. b.
