Dear Sky:
Since General Williams is out of town, I am writing you in reply to
his letter to John McMahon of 22 June. As we discussed during my visit,
the assignment of 0 as Director of the Consolidated SAFE Project
Office (CSPO) should strengthen our joint development of SAFE. He is
currently the Associate Deputy Director for Processing, the component of
the Office of Data Processing (ODP) which provides the majority of support
to CSPO. Consequently, we believe he will be able to insure the total
commitment of resources of ODP to the project. He has considerable
experience managing the development of large m He is a good
leader and manager and will work well with
ill remain available to provide continuity for SAFE as
required. Both the Director, Office of Data Processing,
and I will remain involved in the management of SAFE. We will continue to
work with and your senior management to insure that your interests
are receiving proper attention.
As I mentioned at our meeting, John McMahon shares General Williams'
concern that we do nothing that will result in any diminution of DIA's
influence over the project or that will in any way slow the momentum of the
project. We in the management of the project are very sensitive to these
concerns and want to insure that there is no repeat of past problems.
