SUBJECT: Lebanon: Prospects for Renewed Hostilities
and Partial Israeli Withdrawal (S)
The analyses at Tabs A and B were prepared following a recent
meeting of the CPPG on this subject. I think it is important
that we review these problems and that we be prepared to discuss
our options in the most likely scenarios. (U)
In view of the spate of recent incidents and the mounting toll of
casualties in Lebanon, we need to discuss these subjects with the
,President as a matter of some urgency. Accordingly, we will
convene the NSPG.early next week at a time to be announced. (S).
