Director ot Communications
SUBJECT: Economic Intelligence for U.S. Businesses
REFERENCE: DDA 83-0010/3, dated 07 January 1983
As we thoroughly and loudly discussed at the referenced staff meeting,
the very nature of our federal system of government prevents intelligence
organizations from dealing directly with U.S. private firms. There is no
harm or contradictions of the checks and balances of our society in our
providing economic information to other government organizations. To
attempt, to serve the needs of individual U.S. businesses would subvert
and prostitute the purposes for which we were established -- to prevent
another Pearl. Harbor.
