MEMORANDMI FOR: Deputy Chief, Logistics Services Division/OL
STAT FROM: F__ I
Chief, Headquarters Engineering Branch
RECD/OL
SUBJECT: Access Gate, Athletic Field No. 4
REFERENCE: Memo for C/LSD/OL fr DC/B&SD/OP, subject
as above, dtd 25 June 81
1. The reference memorandum describes accurately the current
condition of the card-activated electric gate. The mechanism that
opens the gate has recently been less than reliable for a variety
of reasons.
2. The present method of using a chain and lock and having
the key issued to a game coordinator or umpire is probably the best
way to service this gate in view of past experience. The locking
arrangement may involve some short-term inconvenience for those who
would have to wait at the gate until the "key" person arrives, but
this is relatively insignificant compared to a malfunctioning card-
opening system which could cause the sporting event to be postponed.

Si ? ~.. Access Field #`4
1. The gate to our athletic complex is a limited access hydraulic
system. Entry to the area is.by access card method similar to the badge
system. An electric eye beam opens the gate for exit.
2. At present, the system is inoperable and has been secured by a
lock and chain to prevent entry of unauthorized personnel.
3. Prior to this year the system has worked well. However, this
year several people have used the wrong procedure in exiting, which has
caused the power to be tu~-ed off after the gate is locked. A bolt was
installed by logistics. to prevent this from happening again. However,
some person or persons ktd o:,,n have removed this bolt. In addition, the
striker latch to the black box. has been removed and is now bolted *to the
inside of the gate.
4. It is requested tr.at you authorize a member of your Division to
perform the necessary repairs to the gate as indicated in the above
nararraph.
