State Department Request
The State Department requested from FBIS current data on western
broadcasting to Poland for the use of a delegation headed by Henry Allen
Holmes, Deputy Assistant Secretary for European Affairs, which will be
attending a special session of the North Atlantic Council in Brussels on
23 January. Specifically, FBIS provided information on BBC, Dcutsch-
landfunk and Vatican broadcasting.
Muharak Speeches
A member of the President's speech writers research staff requested
a collection of speeches and public statements by Egyptian President
Muharak to gain understanding of his policies and of Mubarak as a person
so that he can give some personal flavor to President Reagan's remarks
during the upcoming Mubarak visit. FBIS provided a recent Analysis Report
on "Egypt's Mubarak: The First Months, Leadership Stylolic:ies,"
as well as a collection of Nubarak's major speeches.
U,S,-Iranian Discussions
Staff linguist Mansour Lotfi has returned from his third TDY for
the State Department in support of U.S.-Iranian discussions at The Iague.
Lotfi, a. Persian language officer, was at The Hague for 5 days.
