1. SIGNIFICANCE: A PROBABLE HIGH-BYPASS-RATIO TURBOFAN ENGINE
WAS OBSERVED FOR THE FIRST TIME AT
ZAPOROZHYE AIRCRAFT ENGINE PLANT 478. THE ENGINE APPEARS
VERY SIMILAR TO THE HIGH-BYPASS-RATIO TURBOFAN ENGINE WHICH
POWERS THE CONDOR A, THE NEW SOVIET HEAVY-LIFT TRANSPORT.
IF THIS CAN BE CONFIRMED AS THE CONDOR ENGINE, IT WOULD
INDICATE THE LOTAREV DESIGN BUREAU IS THE DESIGNER SINCE
THE DESIGN BUREAU IS LOCATED WITHIN PLANT 478. (SWN)

IS NEAR TWO LARGE PROBABLE SHIPPING~CONTAINERS SIMILAR TO

OF THE OUTDOOR TEST STANDS. (SWN)
SINCE THE MID-1970's, NEARLY 50,000 SQUARE METERS OF.
PRODUCTION FLOORSPACE HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE NORTHWEST SIDE
OF THE PLANT. THE ENGINE IS IN THIS AREA OF THE PLANT
WHICH WAS APPARENTLY BUILT SPECIFICALLY FOR PRODUCTION OF A
NEW ENGINE. MOST OF THIS CONSTRUCTION IS EXTERNALLY
