2. REMARKS: PREPARATIONS FOR THIS ACTIVITY HAVE BEEN OBSERVED FOR
THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS WHILE KEEL BLOCKS WERE BEING PLACED ON
THE DOCK FLOOR. EY ALL OF THE BALLAST CANS HAD BEEN 25X1
LOADED TO INSURE STABILITY DURING DOCKING PROCEDURES. BY
THE SUBMARINE HAD BEEN PLACED INSIDE THE DOCK AND THE 25X1
DOCK HAD BEEN MANEUVERED INTO THE BASIN. (SWN)
THE THIRD TYPHOON SSBN WAS LAUNCHED IN DECEMBER 1983, AND
RE-DOCKING NORMALLY OCCURS IN THE LATE STAGES OF THE OUTFITTING
PROCESS. FINAL HULL INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE WILL BE
ACCOMPLISHED IN THE DOCK OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL WEEKS PRIOR
TO DEPERMING OF THE SUBMARINE AND DEPARTURE FOR SEA TRIALS.
DEPARTURE SHOULD TAKE PLACE LATER THIS SUMMER BARRING ANY
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN THE INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE PHASE.
AFTER INITIAL SEA TRIALS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED FROM SEVERODVINSK,
THEY WILL PROBABLY BE CONTINUED FROM THE PRESENT OPERATING
FACILITY AT GUBA LITSA SUBMARINE BASE SW WHERE 25X1
ONE TYPHOON SSBN (UNIT 2) IS CURRENTLY COMPLETING TRIALS AND
ANOTHER TYPHOON (UNIT 1) HAS ALREADY PRESUMABLY CONDUCTED AN
UNDER-ICE PATROL EARLIER THIS YEAR. (SWN)
