A FOUR-GUN CHINESE ARTILLERY (ARTY) BATTERY (ETRY) IS DEPLOYED
BESIDE THE ROAD AT 21-43-30N 107-47-45E APPROXIMATELY 4 NM
NORTH OF THE CHINA-VIETNAM BORDER, AND 6 NM NORTHWEST CF
NI-LIANG. THREE SMALL EIVCUACE OF AT LEAST 14 TENTS ARE IN THE
AREA, AND 14 TRUCKS ARE NEAR THE BIVOUACS. A SOUTH BOUND
CONVOY OF 11 TRUCKS IS ON THE EGAD AT 21-44-15N 107-46-40E NEXT
TG ONE OF THE BIVOUACS. TWENTY-SEVEN OTHER TRUCKS ARE PARKED
NEXT TO SEVERAL BUILDINGS APPROXIMATELY 3 NM NORTH-NORTHEAST OF
THE ARTY BTFY. (EWN)
AT NI-LIANG ARMY BARRACKS FAST I AT LEAST FOUR 25X1

THREE TANKS, AND ONE ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY SITE (AAA) ARE
DEPLOYED ALONG THE CHINA-VIETNAM BORDER BETWEEN 21-33N 107-55E
AND 21-35N 107-51E. THESE FORCES ARE APPROXIMATELY 2 NM SOUTH
OF THE BORDER AND APPROXIMATELY 6 NM NORTHWEST OF DONGXING/MONG
CAI, AND ARE IMMEDIATELY OPPOSITE CHINESE ARTILLERY
DEPLOYMENTS. OTHER DEPLOYMENTS RECENTLY OBSERVED INCLUDED AT
LEAST FIVE VIETNAMESE FA AND TWO AAA SITES NEAR FRIENDSHIP
PASS. THE SITES WERE SEEN ON 20 APRIL IN AN AREA NORTHWEST OF
LANG SON BETWEEN 21-56N 106-43E AND 21-52N 106-45E. FRIENDSHIP
PASS IS APPROXIMATELY 65 NM WEST OF DONGXING/MCNG CAI. (EWN)
