1. SIGNIFICANCE: IRANIAN DEFENSIVE MEASURES ON KHARG ISLAND
H E REMAINED AT A IiIGH STATE OF READINESS SINCE LATE

2. REMARKS: RECENTLY RENEWED IRAQI TI-TREATS TO STRIKE THE
MAJOR IRANIAN OIL FACILITY ON KItARG ISLAND AND AN IRAQI
II`1POSED SIIIPPING EXCLUSION ZONE IN TI-IE NORTHERN PERSIAN
GULF HAS PROMPTED IRAN TO MAINTAIN THE DEFENSES ON KHARG
ISLAND AT A HIGH LEVEL OF READINESS. 1~IAJOR DEFENSES
CURRENTLY ACTIVE ON KHARG ISLAND INCLUDE ONE OCCUPIED
SIX-POSITION HAWK BATTERY, KtIARG ISLAND HAWK SITE 9 A34-35
AND EIGHT SWISS-PRODUCED TWIN-POSITION 35MM 25X1
OERLIKON ANT RCRAFT (AA) GUN BATTERIES. THESE OERLIKON
BATTERIES ARE DEPLOYED AT PREPARED SITES WITH REVETTED
WEAPONS POSITIONS. EACH OERLIKON SITE ALSO CONTAINS A
FIRE-CONTROL SUPERFLEDERbtAUS RADAR AND TWO GENERATORS.
ADDITIONALLY, AT LEAST EIGHT PROBABLE ZPU-2/ZPU-4 LIGHT AA
POSITIONS ARE DISPERSED AROUND THE ISLAND PERIMETER. THESE
DEFENSES WERE STILL PRESENT (SWN) (PERSIAN 25X1
