1. SIGNIFICANCE: EVIDENCE OF HOSTILITIES IS OBSERVED AT THE
BARRACKS. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: ALL 16 BUILDINGS IN THE MAIN PART OF THE INSTALLATION
AND AT LEAST THREE STORAGE BUILDINGS IN THE STORAGE AREA (NOT
ON GRAPHIC) HAVE SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE. GOVERNMENT FORCES ARE
REPORTEDLY IN CONTROL OF THE INSTALLATION AND CLEAN-UP
OPERATIONS APPEAR TO BE IN PROGRESS. (SWN)
PRESS REPORTS INDICATE GUERRILLA FORCES CAPTURED THE GARRISON
ON IT WAS LATER RETAKEN BY GOVERNMENT FORCES 25X1
FOLLOWING HEAVY AIR STRIKES. THE GARRISON, LOCATED IN THE
HEART OF A REBEL STRONGHOLD APPROXIMATELY 29 NM NORTH OF
SAN SALVADOR, WAS ONE OF THE SALVADORAN ARMY'S MOST MODERN
FACILITIES. (SWN)
